My body turned to stone, and I found myself in an odd predicament, one I’d never faced before. On the one hand, I had to be gentle with the fainted woman I held against my chest, and on the other, there was such rage burning in my chest my body vibrated with it.
Murderous rage is what I felt, and I felt that part of me that I’d kept so well hidden from her fight its way back, clamoring to be freed. What had I become that something like this could happen on my watch? That she kept being placed in danger when she was the one thing in this life that I should protect most of all?
