章節 5: Growing Up (1)

Waiting for the next day was certainly worrying, yet at the same time exciting. After all he was going to learn magic! Well not really but it was at least close enough, and who didn't want a super power of their very own.

Before he knew it, Sabrina had shown up once again, and in the same way as she left last time, just appearing there, in front of him. As he looked at her and marveled, she didn't waste anytime in starting her lesson.

"First things first is to test your natural control. Be warned for I will be taking a thread of my psychic energy and pushing it into your mind. It may be uncomfortable but it will be quick."

Almost as soon as she finished talking, and before he could really process what she said, he felt a deep chill go down his spine and a sharp pain in his head. Before he could even cry out though it was gone. And before he knew it she was speaking again, just for a brief second though he thought he saw a smile on the edge of her lips.

"Good you have a natural control of one, which is the highest you can have in your first cycle. The higher your natural control you will get more power out of the same amount of psychic energy. There are 5 cycles in total with breaks inbetween the second and third cycle and the fourth and fith cycle. As you progress through cycles you can grow the factor of your control through a set of practices that I shall pass onto you now."

As she finished speaking he suddenly realized there was new info in his head, like it had just been dropped into it. The set of exercises didn't seem to be anything complicated at first until he looked farther into them, the shapes started to get so overwhelming he had to stop.

She was right about one thing though, at this point he would be able to do the first cycle of exercises as easily as breathing but the second cycle ones seemed completly impossible. In fact he quite literally couldn't move his energy in most of the ways it wanted him to at this point. Still he would at least practice the first cycle ones as much as possible to hopefully be able to gain a headstart once he can do the second style ones. Eventually though, he realized Sabrina was still here and he got out of his own mind.

"Good, I see you are no longer distracted. One other thing I noticed while I was looking at your core was that yours is twice as big as it should be. This isn't a bad thing, in fact its a very good thing, but you should not let others know, espically other psychics. The size of the psychic core was always thought to be immutable; the same for everyone no matter how talented you are. Considering that, some of the less friendly psychics would love the chance to take you apart."

That thought certainly sent a chill done his bones. Even though he wasn't planning to, he would have to be extra carefull to not let anything slip.

"I suspect partly because of your larger core your psychic energy is incomparbly pure. Although psychic energy naturally transfers to liquid from the gas stage, I would recomend, when you feel the ability for the liquid to change to a solid, to hold back for a while as it will allow your energy to grow more pure. Typically, all psychics have the same amount of energy and its their purity and control that decides how strong they are. Even if you have twice as much energy it would be difficult to defeat someone a higher stage above you."

Sabrina's words certainly gave him a lot to think about. If he had to guess his core being twice as big was possibly the consequence of having two lives. Also it seemed that this world hadn't realized the compression trick he used. Which was honestly great, because it meant that as he grew to higher stages others would grow comparitvley weaker due to his huge purity advantage. In fact he believed that in the future it would be easy to deafeat higher staged psychics as long as they rushed through the levels.

Even greater than that was the way his compression trick worked, and how well it paired with his increased core size. After all his trick worked by pressing his own energy against itself, this meant that his purity would still be greater than if somebody waited as long as they could to also get maxed purity due to being able to push down with more "weight" than if his core was smaller.

"I have to leave now. I shall be by often to teach you lessons about the psychic world and the enrgy itself."

And once again she was gone. Just like that. She would make true on her promise to come by often, teaching him about customs of psychics in different regions, and in the most likely way they were to try and attack you. Definitly shouldn't have been taught to a kid as young as him but she didn't seem to realize that.

She would often give him quizes at first just expecting one blabble for yes and two for no, but as he grow up she soon wanted him talking to her in full sentances. Which although certainly annoying at first, espically because his baby mouth didn't always work as he wanted it to, he wasn't complaining about it with all that he got to learn about this wonderfull world.

His mother had started to look at him a little funny at some point, but he ignored it because she still pampered him all the same. It was irratating at times but it also felt nice to be so loved. One of the best moments of this life so far was getting to meet his mothers pokemon for the first time. She only has one but it was an amazing experiance.

It was his second birthday when it happened. For his birthdays so far nothing really big had happened it was just a meeting between the parents with Sabrina also there in the background. His dad had built him a little knick knack for the past two birthdays, and they were pretty cool. Sabrina had given him some sage wisdom, AKA, nothing. For this birthday though his mother had brought him the greatest gift of all.

He didn't remember exactly what she said at the time because his eyes were laser focused on the poke ball that she had held in her hand at the time. Before he knew it, before him, standing in all her glory was his mothers ninetales, Jasmine. Jasmine was certainly gourgeous and seeing a pokemon on tv could never compare to seeing it in real life.

And when Daniel first got to pet Jasmine he instantly fell in love. She was just the softest thing ever! Espically those tails, he wish he could sleep on them every night. There was one oddity though, and that was the purple crystal inbetween Jasmine's eyebrows. He didn't ask about it though becausse he wasn't exactly supposed to know what a normal ninetales looked like. Soon though the party had come to an end and mother took her partner back.

That didn't mean there wasn't some arguments between them though. When he was around three his mother had set up a playdate for him and he didn't get the chance to refuse. It went exactly how he expected. It was just some snot nosed brat that practically fell on his face twice in the first five minutes of Daniel knowing him. When his mother asked if he had wanted to go back he vehemintly refused any and all playdates. She was certainly disapointed but she relented in the end.

One of the other major disagrements his mother had with him was on the topic of school. His mother wanted him to go there to meet with people his age, plus it was also stipulated by the alliance that he had to, even though he knew that Sylph Co. had enough power to make it not happen. The argument had lasted for about a week before Sabrina stepped in and informed Daniel's mother that due to his psychic training he wouldn't be getting along with kids his age for a while. He thinks the only reason Sabrina had stepped in was because she had realized that if he went to school she would have to start scheduling her visits around him, instead of just showing up whenever she wanted.

His mother eventually relented but it was stipulated that he would have to take the alliance tests at the end of every year starting from 10 to make sure he was keeping up on his education. Certainly much better than wasting time sitting in school six hours a day.

Daniel's realationship with his father certainly wasn't as good as it was with his mother though. To no fault of his his own of course, but he was the head of Sylph Co. One of the leading technology producers in the world. Because of that, he was often busy running around to important buisness meetings or stuck away in one of his labs. It did lead to some great birthday presents though.

When he was two, closing in on three, he had been reading through on of the Sylp Co. magazines in the house and had come across something amazing. It was a gravity room! A real life gravity room. It was advertised as a training ground for pokemon but that didn't mean humans couln't use it.

It was suprisingly easy to get to. On a day when his dad was home but he was very busy, Daniel had simply walked up to him and asked his father for his room to be turned into a gravity room. His dad gave a quick "yup" and two weeks later on his birthday he could freely change the gravity in his room.

This was great because he had a feeling this wasn't the friendly pokemon universe where Ash can take repeated lightning strikes from Pikachu and walk it off. He couldn't start training his body safely untill he was 6 but hopefully the passive increased gravity would slowly give him an advantage. He started the gravity off at 1.1X and increased it a safe amount every time he got used to it.

Another thing to note was that sadly he wouldn't be able to use aura. He had asked Sabrina at one point and she told him that being able to use psychic energy completly eliminated the possibility of using aura. Certainly disapointing, but at least it would give him more time to focus on training his psychic abilites.

For his fourth birthday he did pretty much the same thing as he did for his third, and it went pretty much the same way. He had walked up to him, told him that he wantef to learn how to use a scythe and smaller dual scythes, his dad gave an afirmation, and that was that. Some may question his chose of weapon, although the scythe may look cool it was wholly impractical as a weapon.

He agreed with that to, but he believed even if the scythe was as an impractical as people said it was the weapon for him. For as long as he could remember he had loved the scythe and he believed that his passion for the weapon would get him farther than if he dedicated himself to the sword, which he was utterly disintrested in. The two smaller scythes were also for throwing, and a possible more agile style. Which again impractical, but it was what he desired most.

Low and behold two weeks later at his birthday he opened up a long box that held a beutifully crafted scythe with two smaller scythes croseed over on the larger ones hilt. As he looked toward his mother and father, and saw the smile on their faces and the love in their eyes, he couldn't help but run over and give them a hug.

"I love both of you, thank you so much."

"No problem Champ, but that isn't the whole gift. A few years back a friend of mine passed away leaving his pokemon behind. One of those pokemon being his prized scyther. After he had passed away it had gone off to live in the woods. But your old man had managed to track it down and have it agree to train you as long it accepts you."

"Really! Can we go see it now!"

"Calm down, calm down, buddy. He's out in the woods in the back, we have plenty of time, why don't we eat your cake first?"

He pouted, but it was really good cake, so he clamed himself and sat down. ". . . fine"

As he sat there eating his cake he thought about his life so far and all his parents had done for him. Although becoming the strongest would always be his top prioty, he supposed he could put protecting his family as the second.
