Archer's POV

The dinner dragged on forever, and I wanted to be alone with Mariela, I felt so guilty that my parents showed her their disapproval, and I could see the hurt on Ella's face. I know she was hurting because of my mom's words and how I wish I could do something to stop them from insulting Ella.

It was unfair to Ella to remind her that she belonged to a low-class family, and I wanted to beg my mom to stop and tell her that I only paid Mariela to pretend as my girlfriend, but I couldn't do that, and I didn't want to make Ella feel worse.

But when she told my mother, she loved and trusted me, how I wished the words that came out of her mouth were all true and not because we were pretending to be so in love with each other. And her words were convincing enough to make my mom shut her mouth, and I felt glad my father intervened.
