"Hey Uncle Tesh?" I asked, sitting in front of him on the horse we shared.
"Yes?"
"Why didn't you kill Bast?"
My parents looked at me a bit horrified but Teshgar just laughed.
"I wouldn't dare, and make sure not to do so either. There are a few reasons. One is the beam of light that signifies Arcanum use; it surrounds the Gods body and shoots into the air for a hundred meters. Any mortal being inside the beam will have their body dissolved by the godly power. Then there is the fact that if a mortal kills a God and ruins their 'game' then when that person dies the soul will be judged by said God. Then there is the fact that the Gods don't want to set a precedent of mortals killing them so they raise others calling it a grave sin. The only ones that try to kill Gods are other Deities and monsters, who actually love killing Gods because of the Dungeon."
"Because of the Dungeon?"
"Yes, the Dungeon is the Mother of all monsters."
But why did the Mother of monsters want to kill the Gods? I wondered but didn't ask.
"So… where are we heading?" Teshgar asked.
I froze then turned back looking at the Spirit. We had been traveling for a few hours by now.
"What do you mean? You're the one leading us."
"No I'm not, the horse is," Teshgar looked at me confused.
"Maybe you're not as smart as I thought…" the Spirit murmured.
"The hell? Take that back," I said annoyed. "I'll have you know I am almost done creating a new potion."
"What?" Ma said. "Really? You haven't told me anything about that."
Of course I hadn't, there was no way I was going to tell my mother that I, a nearly seven year old, was making Liquid Viagra. Some of the books Ma had told of aphrodisiacs, but I had an idea to make a potion that didn't turn the recipient into a mindless sexual assult charge waiting to happen.
There was even the part where the ingredients cost less.
"Anyways you asked where we are heading right? Orario," I said.
"Kova we talked about this, Orario is dangerous. Not only is there the Dungeon, but there is also a large amount of Gods and Goddesses that would love to get their perverted hands on ya like Bast. Not to mention the Evilus," Da said.
"We just need to do some research on a stronger Familia that won't treat me like a toy," I said.
Loki, Hephaestus, Ganesha, Dionysus, Ishtar along with the Freya Familia were powerful enough to be talked about throughout the continent.
The port city of Melen was close, so I was hoping we could go there and gather some information.
"No need no need," Teshgar said happily. "One of my friends is a Deity, if I ask they're sure to let you in. We've known each other for centuries after all. Not only that, they have quite the powerful Familia I might say."
"Who is it?"
The Spirit looked offended. "That would ruin the surprise."
"Or make us more prepared for the future," I countered.
"Meh."
…
As we traveled I learned that the reason that Teshgar had taken so long was that he helped out the animals and minor spirits that had been injured or displaced during the forest fire. After that it had been him going through the desert trying not to get lost and having to fend off hungry monsters.
He also told me about spirits, how minor spirits were born in nature, while greater spirits were sent down from heaven to act as hands of Gods. Back during the Ancient times there were many more greater spirits that were sent down and gave blessings similar to Falna. Or like what he did for me and gave me a bit of his blood and used his magic to make my birth possible.
We passed the desert where a few small countries were. With Teshgar I was actually able to go into the city for the first time, I had lived the rural medieval life for the past six years so being able to see all the fantasy elements in one place was awesome.
Instead of passing through Rakia where the unreasonable Ares reigned we took a boat that circled the edge of the continent and headed for Melen. During our boat ride Teshgar taught me about magic, he had a deeper more natural understanding that Ma. He told me about how magic ran through things like blood ran through our veins or how air went from the outside to our lungs then circulated through our system. Ma was a bit lost at this, but my education from Earth made it understandable.
He taught that chants not only made the image of what we were doing clearer, it also was the most natural and effective way that our intent was conveyed to the magic. Da told me that was also how people were able to make magical weapons or items, instead of the voice for spells they rhythm and intent behind the hands as well as the magical ingredients shaped the final product.
Teshgar showed us a bit of his magic and I could feel the waves of tightly controlled magic pulse out. It was also funny to see the captain of the ship nearly shit himself as a tree grew out from the ocean.
Apparently all of Teshgars magic revolved around plants with a bit of protection and healing magic as well, and unlike those with a Falna he was not restricted to only three spells.
I also had him begin to teach me hieroglyphs because it was the writing of the Gods, and there was no doubt it would be useful in the future.
…
Melen was a comfortable port town, only a handful of Familias resided there. We booked a room at an inn at the far side of the town. I loved my parents, but I was really hoping to get a Falna soon. Then I'd be able to explore more with the reasoning that I could protect myself.
Teshgar sat at the desk slowly writing a letter. I say slowly because his handwriting was terrible and he was trying to make sure it was legible, it was also in hieroglyphs so I could only pick out a few of the words.
He had apparently not written in almost a hundred years so he was out of practice.
When he finished he put it in an envelope and smiled at me.
"Are you ready to meet your new Familia?"
"Of course!" I said excitedly.
"Have one of your parents send this to the Guild branch," He said writing the Familias name on the front of the envelope.
Looking at it my face fell.
"Your shitting me right?"
"What? They are one of the most powerful Familias in the world."
On the front of the envelope were the words. To the Zeus Familia.
A Familia that had been destroyed almost five years ago and the God no longer lived in the Dungeon City.
