We didn't talk for a few minutes, letting the truth sink in. Was my mate Famine? The horseman of the Apocalypse? How was that even possible? It felt unreal, and I had so many questions. Yet, when I look at Nefera's face, all I see is fear. 

She's afraid of how I'll react. 

"I… I understand if you don't believe me," Her bottom lip trembled, and she had to blink several times to keep herself from crying. What was she talking about? I wasn't shocked because I thought she was lying. I believed her; I just couldn't wrap my head around what it meant for us. "Do you want to reject me?"

"What?" Her question made me jump, and I held her back, staring at her like she was insane. "Why would I reject you?"

"I just told you I'm Famine… Don't you think that's grounds for rejection?" She tries to look away, but I grab her chin before she can, turning her to face me again.
