"She's here with us," Luke tries to argue with the vampire so he won't hang up. "Please, Fredrick, don't hang up!"

It was the same story with everyone we called. They'd end the call when the name Jordans came into the conversation. We'd contacted every pack in New York, New Jersey, and even Pennsylvania, but no one would help us. They knew who we were talking about but were silent on the subject. Now, we were trying every non-human Luke did business with, facing the same problem.

"I can't help you, Luke." The vampire sighs as if it pains him. "I'm sorry."

"Fredrick, give me something." Luke insists. "Anything."

There's silence for a moment, and I hold my breath. Would we get lucky enough? Was Fredrick willing to tell us something? The tension grows when we hear a heavy sigh as Fredrick considers what he'll say.

"If… you have Neffy and DJ, keep them safe, and don't bring them back here." He tells us in a low tone. "Goodbye."
