章節 14: 014 Morning Delights
My feet jiggled, tapping the top of my shoes against the floor rapidly, resting my chin on my palm. Hopefully, this goes as planned.
"Your holiness, her majesty the crowned princess has arrived." My head shot up, a graceful smile playing on my face.
"Ah, Princess...Please sit." I signaled to the seat before me. She merrily grinned, brushing her pale light blond behind her ears. It seemed she especially dressed up today.
I couldn't lie, she was stunning at a particularly youthful age.
"Would you like some tea, princess?"
She gave a curt nod. Yes, I would like that. I signaled a nearby maid who obeyed immediately pouring tea for three cups.
"When is the duke arriving?" She tried looking elsewhere to conceal her blush which I had caught.
"Soon enough. I had told him it was an important matter. He does not take these sort of things lightly." I whispered the last time almost unsure of what I was saying, sipping the tea, the warm fluid tumbling down my throat.
Almost a minute later, the door had opened. The princess perked up, putting her tea down. Although she attempted to not show her boredom being around me, I could pinpoint it with ease.
I couldn't blame her, I am a boring person to be around.. at times.
I pursed my lips keeping my eyes down at the orange tea. Achlys, or the Duke, had come in.
He had looked like he usually did, only more..stoic. His eyes met with mine first, immediately mellowing.
The ends of his lips twitched into a smile. I fiddled with the teacup as I started to speak. "Grand Duke, Please sit."
I gestured to the seat on my right-hand side facing the table.
He nodded. This was quite awkward. I have never been introduced to this type of thing, other than business.
"So... you know this is the crown princess, Adriel. I would like you to meet her, per her request. She would like to.. get to know you more for her own... personal reasons."
I had trouble speaking. I wasn't sure what to say, and I had to be careful in what I was saying around the princess.
"..."
Achlys- the duke had kept quiet. Sparing one glance to the princess before training his eyes back on me.
I inwardly sighed. I continued to speak slowly. "I am only here for the introductions, please have a good time without me, if it isn't much trouble. Duke. Princess".
I had bowed before leaving my office. I have the Duke a look before leaving, which I'm sure he knows what it means.
"Be nice."
I left before allowing him to look back. Hopefully, it would go well. I walked along the long hallway. I was going to pray.

An hour had passed. I left the prayer room on my way to see how they were both doing. As I passed the garden, two figures caught my eye. Achlys and the princess. They seemed to be having a good time.
The princess was giggling smiling- one that any man would kill to see. Achlys smile was small, as he held out a rose giving it to the princess. She flushed. I raised my eyebrow, with a mocking grin.
Truly a flatterer. I was glad things were going smoothly I pushed away from the uncomfortable feeling in my chest. I headed back to my office, ignoring Achlys´ stare.
I fiddled with the rind on my third finger, before slipping it off. I admired it, letting it glimmer in the sunlight. I placed it down. I wonder if he has one to match.
I immediately pushed away that thought surprised by it myself. I put the ring in my drawer. My left hand felt vacant. My thoughts had turned to the missing hearts.
I shivered. I was going to be involved in the investigation tomorrow. Hopefully, it wouldn't be so hard to figure out.
The wind had blown through my window, the smell of flowers entering my nose.
"Darling wife..!" Achlys´ voice called out to me in a sing-song voice. I whipped my head around. "Duke, you are supposed to be accompanying the princess, what are you doing? "
I frowned. Standing up from my chair. "I simply inquired as to whether she could go the way home without help from anyone else. All things considered, I am a busy man."
I half rolled my eyes. Poor princess. "Wife, I have a favor to ask." he had come off the balcony, walking towards me at a slow pace, at which I walked backward, hitting the desk. His face was inches from mine. "And what would that be?"
"May I kiss you?"
