Vijay was woken up by the doorbell. Blinking sleep away, he glanced at his bedside clock. 3:00 AM.

Wondering who would want to get in touch with him so late, he pulled on his dressing gown and went to open the door. He had just returned from a very, very exhausting trip to Australia that Firdaus had saddled him with, that had come on the heels of his break-up with Dr Linda Hooper. He suspected Firdaus had sent him away to give him some time to sort himself out and get over Linda – but of course, that hadn't happened. Vijay had never loved anyone as he had loved the British doctor. Clearly, the affection was not reciprocated, which had led Linda to break up with him and led her to believe that she preferred another man. Vijay had thrown himself into his work with single-minded zeal, nearly driving himself to his physical limits, before Firdaus had decided Australia was not helping his assistant and called him back.
