Swept along by the current, and with the help of billowing winds, the Black Pearl made it to the island by the next morning.

The island was perhaps a few miles across, and it looked uninhabited. There were no columns of smoke promising housing, no docks, no harbors. Arthur laid anchor, jumped into the water, and waddle to the shore with Sabrina accompanying him.

"Do you think we will find something here?" Arthur asked glancing at Sabrina.

"Perhaps, but even if we don't, we lose nothing checking it out," she answered. "Besides, we could always stock the storage with things from here to see once we do find civilization."

"Well, let's go then..."

...

If the sun was hot when Arthur landed, it was nothing compared to midday. Being in the middle of the jungle didn't help either.

The journey had been mostly peaceful, only a few animals daring enough to try and cause trouble. Arthur didn't recognize the animals, so different from what he was used to, but he couldn't find any sign that they might be out of the ordinary, so he left them alone. He could always come back later for some hunt, the fur might sell well.

At this point, Arthur was alone, Sabrina having exceeded the one-kilometer range. He was going upstream of a river he had found an hour ago, still exploring the place. As he pushed the bushes out of the way, he was thrilled to find a little clearing with cool shade, soft grass, and some breeze.

He was just preparing to sit down for a while when the sound of steps caught his attention. Pushing through the bushes on the other side of the clearing, two teenagers - a boy and a girl - could be seen.

"Well, look what I found," Arthur said. "It seems the island isn't so uninhibited das I thought."

...

The teenagers in front of Arthur were called James and Lara. Both were similar enough to pass as siblings, with dark-brown hair, small noses, thin lips, and tanned skin. What set them apart the most were their different colored eye, the right being blue and the left one being hazel.

They had been stranded on this island for the past two weeks, serving on fruits while trying to make a raft to get out. They had a stowaway on a ship, for it to be hit by the storm and sink. Considering the was no one else on the island, they thought they were the only survivors.

"I see," Arthur said after listening to their story. "But why were you on the boat? From your story, you shouldn't be there, and forgive me, but you two don't look much older than fourteen."

After a glance at each other, Lara was the one to answer. "Our family are merchants in the Loen Kingdom, and fairly well off. However, our father wasn't satisfied with just that and wanted a title of nobility."

"There are different ways to achieve, but he went with what he thought was the easiest," James grumbled. "He decided that marrying Lara off to some old sod in exchange for a title was a fair deal." He finished saying, his hands tight in a fist.

'Oh, if I ever find this man,' Arthur thought, imagining in how many different ways he could feed someone to the fishes.

"While on a trip to the harbor, I decided to run away. James didn't know about my decision, but once he saw me sneaking out, he followed me," Lara said, a smile gracing her features. "He said that he was my brother, and was his duty to protect me, even against our father."

"Of course!" James agreed a grin on his face. "We then found a boat that would take us out of there and sneaked in. We were at the storage room when the storm hit the ship. It rocked us until at some point it just started sinking."

"And after some ups and downs, we ended up here," Laura said.

'What a way to finish a story,' lampooned Arthur.

"Well, I do have a ship if you're interested in leaving this island," Arthur said. "By the way, I'm Arthur Black, captain of the Black Pearl.

...

Before returning to the ship, the siblings led Arthur along a well-worn path. For the past two weeks, the waves had been sweeping stuff from their sunken ship and deposited on the beaches. It led deeper into the island, towards another clearing near the center of the jungle.

It was certainly beautiful. The ground was covered with flowers of different colors as if Arthur had found himself walking on a rainbow. At one side of the clearing was a little nook, a rocky overhang shaded a series of clear pools fed by a spring that bubbled like a fountain. On the other, there was a shabby-looking shelter made of thick wood sticks, huge tree leaves, and what appeared to be dry mud.

'For two kids that probably never went camping in their lives, that's really good,' Arthur thought. Besides the tent, there was what he thought was their attempt at building a raft, and right by its side was a small mountain of miscellaneous objects.

While James and Lara rummaged through their pile, Arthur spent his time collecting whatever he thought might be valuable. The flowers, fruits, seeds, tree leaves, anything else that caught his attention.

The kids came back to him with James holding a makeshift bag on hand.

'Should I ask? Well, the worst is that they tell me no,' Arthur thought.

"Say, kids, how would you two like to become my crew?"

"Are you a pirate?" Lara asked.

"Well, not for the time being," answered Arthur with a pensive expression. He wasn't considered a pirate right now, but since he wasn't part of the military nor a merchant ship, sooner or later someone would label him that.

It seemed very fitting.

As they made their way back to the shore, Arthur let them talk quietly to each other. He wasn't going to force the kids to work for him, but considering they had nowhere else to go he thought they might accept.

The walk back was quiet, one the sounds of the jungle and the rustle of their feet breaking the silence. That was, till James and Lara saw the Black Pearl for the first time.

"Wow..." They exclaimed together.

After a moment of more looking at the ship, Lara turned towards Arthur and said, "We accept."

"Great," said Arthur. He led both of them aboard, and with Sabrina appearing next to him, he said, "Welcome, to the Black Pearl!"

...

Lara didn't know what to think about her new Captain. He seemed like a nice guy, but who knew what he was hiding behind the charming smile?

When she tried to run away, Lara never thought that so many things would go against the plan. She never intended to stow away on a ship, her plan was to sneak into a carriage that would lead her far enough from Backlund that she would never have to see that man before. bu, of course, her father had to take them on an unscheduled trip.

In the end, even after having to survive for two weeks in the jungle with her brother - and wasn't she grateful that he was there with her - things worked out.

Lara didn't have to marry a man three times her age, and James could have the adventure he always wanted instead of strolling around trying to look noble.

Perhaps with Captain Arthur Black and the Black Pearl, she would have a good life.
