Pain sliced through my head like it had been cleaved in two. I woke trapped in a twisted, metal cage surrounded by woods. The blessed iron and silver bars hissed when my skin touched them. Where was I?

Last I remembered I stood guard outside Avery's chambers. Then a servant had rushed forward, blabbering about a disturbance in the sanctuary.

Was Avery okay?

My head throbbed again. I placed a hand to my head and brought back blood.

"You're awake." A Gwyllion snorted.

"Where am I?" If the creature thought I'd betray my cousins or our new queen, it was mistaken. I'd been vain with Amber and it had nearly lost my life and all three kingdoms. Deep inside though, I knew Amber had been false and not the true queen. But I'd craved acceptance from my kind in the other realms and drew her flattery into my heart.

I wouldn't make the same mistake again.
