章節 172: The fifth level

We took a small break after finishing the fourth floor. Abby, Percival and Fred were completely exhausted, if it weren't for my magic, they would have had to rest for a couple of hours before even attempting the next floor.

On the third level, we got 0.8 points, on the fourth we got 2 points, Jenna said that on the fifth we would get 4 points, on the sixth we would get 16, and on the seventh, 36 points per win. It was incredibly low for the challenge they posed, but points were meant to be a rare commodity. So, they couldn't offer too many.

So, I currently had a total of 12.3 points. Incredibly low considering the damage it caused to Abby and the rest. It really wasn't worth it. well, for normal people that was. this was heaven for me. I would be able to afford everything I wanted. I no longer had to worry about struggling to get points. The arena by itself was all I needed.

If it wasn't for keeping Percival and his gang company and entertaining myself with new spells, I would have already blitzed my way to the seventh level by now. So, it was incredibly easy.

"Hey, Tom, can you teach us some of your magic spells? They seem incredibly strong and efficient in beating these beasts." Asked Percival. I could tell that he was simply trying his luck and didn't want to push his boundaries, but I didn't mind giving them an upgrade. I could easily give them the invisible sword spell. As well as other spells that suited their combat styles.

When I proposed this to them, everyone was overjoyed. Abby was having a hard time keeping a straight face which provided everyone with some comedic relief.

We eventually decided to leave for some lunch and fill our bellies before continuing with the challenge. As we walked into the cafeteria, I was assaulted by the smell of barbeque and meat which made my mouth water.

Everyone seemed to be the same as we all hurried to the source and got ourselves a plate full of delicious delicacies. Robert was the only one eating a salad like usual. I applaud him for being able to remain strong even in the face of delicious meat.

After a quick meal, we arrived back at the arena and made our way to the fifth floor.

The intensity and difficulty would begin to increase by several times with each floor we went up. I didn't think any of them could get through this floor. The reason they were able to get through the fourth was that I had been instructing them on ways to refine their casting.

It seemed to be enough to push them over the edge, but I doubted even my tips would work. Eventually, it all came down to power. And these people were only second years. But their potential was massive. They were stronger than most students below the 6th year level at Hogwarts. it was quite astonishing to me. I doubted even freshly graduated Hogwarts alumni would be able to defeat even a fourth-floor beast.

The difference in the curriculum is once again highlighted in the quality of students produced. 3rd-year students at ilvermorny could already defeat 6th years at Hogwarts consistently.

I really didn't understand why the difference was so big? Did it have something to do with the ministry? Why would they want to produce incompetent wizards? there was something wrong here. And I couldn't quite figure it out.

I cast the thought aside since I wouldn't be able to glean anything more from it as of now.

The stadium was bigger than the fourth and the terrain changed as well. It was no longer a grassy field but actually changed to suit the specific beast. This seemed like a small difference, but in actuality, it was a massive one. In the previous floors, most beasts were restricted from revealing all of their strength due to the terrain not suiting their needs. This allowed the students to beat monsters of higher tiers.

But now, that advantage was reversed. It was much more complex now and the difficulty once again increased. Not only do we have to worry about the beast, but also about keeping ourselves safe from the environment itself. I now had no doubt that nobody here would be able to pass the fifth level.

It was simply too much of a change.

I volunteered to go up first in order to give the others time to prepare and understand what they would be going up against. The higher the floors, the fewer beasts there would be. After all, the higher we got the closer we got to fighting apex predators. And there can only be so many.

Sure, there might be hundreds of different apex predators across the entire world, but even Newt didn't discover all of them. And some that were known were too dangerous to mess with. so in any case, the beasts available would dwindle more and more the higher we went.

As I stepped into the field, a beast appeared. It was a Treant. A massive tree looking monster towering at 15 meters' tall. Daunting as hell. I did know about these creatures because they were in a journal in the common room I flipped through yesterday.

They are known to be very gentle creatures, relatives of the bowtruckles. These Treants were actually made of extremely high wand quality wood and had massive reserves of magic they could tap into. Know to be the protector of the forests, they become enraged at anything that harms nature or its creatures.

They were once hunted to almost extinction due to their wood before a worldwide law was passed down banning their hunting. Anyone caught with the wood of a Treant would be incarcerated instantly no matter the reason. A radical law, but it seemed to work as their numbers increased again at a steady pace.
