QUENTIN PAUSED ON THE sidewalk to glance over his shoulder at the front of the condo. It had been a fleeting chance that he might find Candi here. He still hadn't fully believed she would be with her brother when he'd made the trip here.

He'd thought he'd been ready to see her again.

One look and all those old feelings resurfaced. He'd wanted to reach out and hold her, like he'd never allowed himself to do before. There had been that one long embrace after drinks. But that didn't count. Not really.

She was so damn beautiful.

Seeing her anger aimed at him, that hurt. But he also knew his conflicted feelings had nothing on the anger and resentment she had to feel toward him. And he had no right to ask her to feel otherwise.

What had he been thinking, dragging her back into this?
