"Are you actually going to dance with me?" She asked, her gaze fixed on him.
"What do you think?"
"No," she answered, thinking he might reply opposite to what she said.
"Then no it is." She looked dumbfoundedly at him, pondering how he never fails to take her in surprise or shock. Looking at her face, he said, "I gave you a chance and you missed it."
"It's you who missed the chance to dance with me, not the other way around," she retorted, her eyes widening in surprise at his words.
"If you perceive it like that," he replied with a smirk. She pouted angrily at him and turned around looking at the gathering.
Soon after, the lights got dim and romantic music played in the background. Evelyn looked at the couple swaying in the music with a small smile on her face.
Her view got blocked by a man. She lifted her head, frowning, only to be met with a set of captivating brown eyes.
"How could I pass up the opportunity to dance with you?"
She heard Elric say and saw him extend his hand towards her. Her face lit up with a big grin, and she placed her hand on his. They both stood at the centre. Evelyn placed one hand on his hand and the other one on his shoulder. He placed his hand on her waist and they both swayed, tuning to the music.
Evelyn never took her eyes off him. In the beginning, her heartbeats were raised seeing him so close to her but it calmed on by itself after he made her comfortable. Just after a few moments, she realised it was him who was leading her in steps and not the other way round. She assumed he couldn't dance and that's why he said no earlier but he took her by surprise. She smiled, relishing every second of this moment.
"Shall we stop?" He asked her after some time when it began to get crowded.
Even though she wanted more but nodded, with disheartened. They both went to their table.
He said, "Let me bring a few drinks," and walked over to the counter.
She sat there alone, again, feeling bored as there wasn't anyone whom she knew, except for one person who is not interested in small talk. She decided to leave early and take some rest in the inn before leaving for Zenira the next day.
"Hello, Miss Evelyn"
She turned and saw Mr Robert taking a seat opposite to her. She gave him a friendly smile.
"Can we dance now? As your partner ain't around," he said.
"Oh, I apologise, Mr Robert. I am exhausted now," she declined politely with a smile. She saw his eyes trail towards her upper body for a fleeting second. Nevertheless, she brushed it off assuming she was overthinking about it.
"It's all right. In any case, would you like to join for a few drinks? Allow me to get some alcoholic beverages for us. It will cause our bodies to heat up."
"Elric went to get some drinks for me," she informed him.
Hearing his name, the smile on his face disappeared. "Well, there are other means as well," he smirked mysteriously, leering at her.
Evelyn frowned at his words. The way he said that made her uncomfortable.
"She doesn't have alcohol," Elric said as he approached them.
He handed her a glass of orange juice and sat on the chair next to her.
"I apologise if I offended you, Miss Evelyn. I was just kidding with you."
Before Evelyn could reply to him, Elric spoke, "Mr Robert, we would like to have some privacy. If you could leave I would be grateful."
Evelyn looked at him in shock for his straightforwardness. He wasn't completely rude but not polite either. She looked at Mr Robert who glared at Elric.
"Alright, have fun," he said and left.
"You were rude to him," Evelyn said looking at the annoyed face of Mr Robert, who was having his drink at the counter.
"Can't help, if he is so sensitive," Elric stated, shrugging his shoulders slightly.
She looked at him incredulously. She shook her head in dismay, knowing his haughty behaviour beforehand.
"So boring. Shall we leave?" He asked her, just for the sake of asking. He stood right after he said that and strolled towards Mr Gilbert. Evelyn sighed and followed him in silence.
"Mr Gilbert," Elric continued, "we will take your leave."
"Oh, I would have insisted on you staying a little longer, but that's fine. Hope you enjoyed the occasion," Mr Gilbert replied with a bright smile to which Elric nodded.
With a smile, Evelyn said, "Yes, we did. Thank you."
Mr Gilbert turned towards her and said, "Miss Evelyn, thank you for accepting the invitation and making your presence here." He bowed respectfully to her.
"Pleasure is ours, Mr Gilbert," she replied.
They hopped into the carriage outside the Manor and drove to the inn, completely unaware of the vicious trap that was waiting for them. The carriage stopped with the tumble, while crossing the forest. The deadly plan began.
"What happened?" Evelyn asked.
"Let me check," Elric said, hopping out of it. Evelyn too stepped out and noticed the broken wheel.
"Now what are we going to do?" She asked, glancing around, hoping to seek some help.
"Let me check in this direction for someone who can help us and the coachman will check this way," Elric informed and they both disappeared in different directions.
Few minutes passed and Evelyn shivered in the cold. When she looked up, she noticed it was a full moon day. Glancing around, she thought, if not for the trees, the surroundings would have been clearly visible in the moonlight, as now the shadows from the trees made it difficult to see.
She was about to enter the carriage and wait as it was chilly outside, a carriage came into her view. It halted right in front of her. She sighed in relief, thinking she could seek help from them.
"Hello again, Miss Evelyn. We met again. Looks like destiny wants us to be together."
She cursed her fate, looking at the man who stepped out of the carriage.
