I watched apprehensively, though masking my face with a smile, as Uncle Isaiah took a sip of the tea and a bit from the food. The tea had been prepared from the same pot and the cream and sugar had come from the same dishes. If something was tainted, this would tell me.

A moment or two passed while we all watched him and waited for his response. He seemed to be okay, but I needed to wait until I heard his response to know for sure. If he wasn't able to tell me that the food was OK, then I wouldn't touch it.

"These are delightful." Finally, Uncle Isaiah spoke after eating his treat. I was happy that he seemed to be okay and that there was not an issue with them.

"Of course they are. They are the signature treats of the palace." Nishi smiled and looked proud. "I do hope that you enjoy them as well, Miss Addie." The look on her face just then was filled with pride.
