章節 17: Rising Action
Second round has ended. The participants were given a chance to take a one-hour break before the third round begins. Most of the teams goes back to their rooms to take their lunch. Some audiences went to the stalls outside the Colosseum to buy food while theyre waiting for the next round.
Cali: "If you guys want to eat or drink, you may, but not too much. Got it?"
Ceed: "I'll probably head back to our room to eat a bit of bread and drink some water."
Mica: "I'll just drink water."
Zen: "Me too."
Cali: "You're not going with them back to the room?"
Biel: "Im fine. I havent even moved much anyway."
The two of them didnt talk the rest of the break after that.
The sun hits mid-day. The sunrays are on its most direct point of the day. No clouds on sight, just a hot summer climate.
The Colosseum's awning made out of cloth is being positioned to shed the audiences from the sunrays. However, the arena itself isnt covered by the awning.
The tiles of the stage got heated so much that the air above the tile starts to distort light.
It looks like you could get roasted just by standing there.
Cali stood up and went back to their room to prepare his white cloak.
It took him quite some time there.
When he goes back, he's with Mica, Zen, and Ceed.
Cali brought his cloak properly folded, he is planning to wear it just before they enter the stage.
Just in a few minutes, the third round will start.
Audiences starts to go back to their seats.
An organizer approached them. Its the same organizer who called them for the second round.
The organizer: "Ah, Mr. Cali. Please prepare your team for the next round. You guys will be the first to fight."
The organizer left.
Zen: "In this heat?"
Mica: "Cali, Biel. Drink some water before we head in."
Biel: "Thanks."
They took a cup of water each.
Few moments later, they headed to the entrance of the arena and waited for the sound of the bell.
Cali worn his cloak just before the bell rings.
Their opponents this time is Kahira's team, where all members happen to be women.
Biel: "This is quite surprising."
Cali: "This looks like it will be a tougher fight for you guys."
Zen: "Ugh, not with this heat too.."
Kahira shouted across the stage: "Lets give ourselves a good fight! No holding back!"
Zen: "No holding a grudge whatever is the result of this fight, okay?!" She shouted back.
Kahira: "Hera (Arch Mage), smokescreen then continuous fireballs. Jocen (warrior), run through the right edge. Veline (Rogue), run through the left edge. Fiex (Defender), slow down any opponent you spot, I'll shoot them."
The smoke made of dust hid each other's position, but since its closer to Team Cali, they have the disadvantage.
Biel ran to the right side.
Cali: "Ceed, watch the left side. Mica, barrier in front of us. And Zen, blow away the smoke towards the opponents then fire rock barrage from above."
Biel located Jocen in the smoke and pushed her outside the field.
Ceed was caught off guard and got hit on his arm.
The continuous fireballs were all blocked.
Zen blew the smoke and as it approaches, Kahira, Hera, and Fiex covered their eyes.
Fiex prepared a barrier in front just in case, but she wasnt expecting the attack to come from above.
Fiex got hit multiple times and it knocked her out of the field. Hera got hit on her left arm.
Biel ran towards the three of them.
Mica immobilized Veline then Ceed pushed her out of the stage.
Kahira fired a concentrated arrow to Biel. He parried it using the sword but the sword then flung off his hands.
Biel grabbed Kahira and held her arms to keep her from fighting back. Hera then suddenly fired an explosion at Kahira and Biel out of panic.
The three of them got caught up in the explosion. Hera and Biel were knocked outside the field while Kahira rolled on the ground.
Biel didnt get a broken bone but his right arm was burned.
Kahira was also burned on both of her arms due to the explosion and the heat of the arena's tiles and has scrape wounds on both arms. Because of this, some of her burned skin were peeled off.
Hera had the bones on her left arm fractured from the fall which made her previous injury more painful. She screamed then cried.
Kahira stood up, but then Zen blew a continuous stream of wind to knock her outside without harming her.
Kahira finally gave in and got knocked out of the stage. The bell rings, after that, she immediately checked on Hera.
Kahira: "Where's your injury?"
Hera: "My arm.."
Kahira: "Grab my shoulders, I'll take you to the clinic."
Hera: "But you've got awful injuries and its my fault too.."
Kahira: "Im fine, hold on to my shoulders."
Hera: "Sorry, Kahira..."
Meanwhile, Cali ran towards Biel and took him in a shed.
Cali handed a cup of water: "Drink. A lot."
Cali rinsed his burns and begins to heal him after he drank the water.
After a while, most of his wounds were healed but not completely.
Biel: "I feel better now. Thank you."
Cali: "I'll heal the rest of your wounds later, after dinner."
"Ceed, let me heal your wound."
Ceed: "Thanks."
Cali observed the wound and healed it completely.
Cali: "Luckily its not that deep."
The observers were shocked of what just happened, and their focus is starting to shift at the remaining teams, including Team Cali.
Audience 1: "I've noticed that white clothed girl in that team doesnt do anything. What do you think she's doing?"
Audience 2: "Maybe she's just scared to fight because of her size?"
Audience 3: "She could also be hiding a secret weapon of some sort that she will only use on last rounds? Either way, that team has incredible fighters, especially that Rogue kid and that Warrior."
Audience 1: "The Arch Mage is pretty skilled and well versed of her magic too."
Audience 2: "Defenders are mostly not recognized but I think her magic is pretty powerful too if she can completely halt another person."
Audience 1: "Just what is the deal with their Ranger though? Or she might not be a Ranger?"
Unless you hear his voice, you could mistake Cali as a girl because of his size and long hair.
Cali visits the clinic.
Cali: "Hey! Are the two of you alright?"
Kahira: "Yeah, how about your teammate?"
Cali: "He's fine now."
Veline: "Do you know him, Kahira?"
Kahira: "Yeah, he's the guy who gave me those gold."
Veline: "Oh?"
"Are you single? What is your ideal woman?"
Fiex: "No fair, Veline! He's mine!"
Cali smiled awkwardly.
Jocen: "Stop it, you two!"
The two of them waited for her to finish, expecting she would refute and take him for herself."
Jocen: "What? Im not as slutty as you two!"
Cali: "Anyway! I came here to give you these fruits to help you get well sooner."
Jocen: "Fine, he's kinda cute."
Kahira: "Thank you, Cali. Though you already helped us a lot, thats why its a bit embarrassing to accept these."
Cali: "It's fine. I saw what you did earlier, I just want you to continue being a kind friend just like back there."
"I gotta get going. That was a good fight, I hope we meet again."
All of them thanked him before he left.
Hera: "I didnt saw him fight, though."
Little did they know, buried under those fruits are bags of gold for each of them, but they only realized this when they already left the Colosseum.
