"It's time for the meeting."
Just as one hour passed, Chris entered the office of Jeremy. The latter was still waiting for any news about that scheme of the elders.
"The elders?" Jeremy asked without any change in his face.
"They... None of them appeared in the building yet," Chris carefully said as he feared his boss' reaction.
However, against his fears, Jeremy didn't fire at him. Instead he frowned. "How come? They know I'm commencing a meeting for selecting a new alpha while Anna is gone... Wait a second..."
His eyes flashed before he raised his head to Chris. "Did you do what I told you earlier about?"
Chris seemed at loss for a brief moment before realizing what Jeremy was speaking about. "I told the doctor to use that drug as you instructed."
"And?" Jeremy pressed over Chris, "did you follow what he did after that?"
"I have an eye inside the medical department," Chris knew what worried Jeremy at this moment. So he didn't hesitate to state it clearly. "Miss Anna is still in a coma. The doctor sent someone already to bring the drug to the underground clinic."
"Hmm..." Jeremy started to tap on the desk while his mind kept looking for another reason for the elders to miss this meeting. "They know I'll become the alpha if they don't show up. I didn't show them the paper I have from my dear sister. Don't tell me they trust me this much."
He smiled but his tone didn't carry any sense of humor at all. Chris kept his silence while trying his best to evade doing or saying anything stupid that might stir up Jeremy against him.
"I can't see through their plan," Jeremy had to give in as he stood up, "let's go."
He marched towards the direction of the alpha office. Here in the building this office is considered the center of everything regarding the pack.
And such an important meeting was destined to happen there.
"You took your time to come!" Just as he entered the office, he heard a soft voice saying that before a loud laugh rang through the place.
She was Christy and she didn't look any different than an hour ago.
Except for her face beaming up with such a happy smile. It was a smile of victory.
"What's the purpose of this meeting anyway?" before Jeremy could say anything to her, James said in faint anger and impatience. "I have a lot of missions to do. We need to avenge our alpha and what those despicable vampires did."
Jeremy didn't know on whose side James was. After all, Christy was his sister. But from his tone and face he could tell that James wasn't happy by what Christy was doing.
Neither was Jeremy as well. But James was such a dangerous wolf that Jeremy had to watch out for. Allying with such a sly wolf wasn't something wise in Jeremy's eyes.
In his eyes, he had to crush this duo of brother and sister, especially when there is a striffe going on between them.
"If someone here was doing his job properly, nothing would have gone wrong!" Jeremy attacked without a flinch while walking in confident steps towards the seat of the alpha.
There were ten people sitting around this oval table. The seat of the alpha was at one angle of it, while the opposite angel was without any seat.
"Says the one who ordered every single wolf to come back and crawl in cowardance inside this pathetic building!" Jeremy didn't back off from this clash and directly attacked in response.
"Humph, the leader of our enforcers shouldn't be this useless. How can you lead our forces if you hang every mistake you made over someone else's shoulder?"
Jeremy stopped just right before the seat of the alpha. He didn't sit directly at it but turned into a calm domineer to face Jeremy.
He decided to fry this wolf this time to show others his resolve and ferocity.
"An alpha should take responsibility of their orders, not throwing blames over their wolves when things go wrong," Jeremy retorted back in the same calm tone like Jeremy.
"I wasn't an alpha before," Jeremy shrugged.
"But you are going to be one now," James shrugged back.
Jeremy couldn't help but faintly smile. 'What are you after, punk?' he thought before deciding to continue pressing over him. "Then you should treat me with more respect from now on."
"Sure, Mr. Alpha..." James said in a weird tone before his face froze and frowned. "Sorry, I mean Mr. Temporary alpha!" he added with an irritating smile.
"You..." Jeremy resisted the urge to fight this wolf at this moment. After all he came to claim his throne and wouldn't let an impulsive pub like James stop him.
However James didn't intend on letting Jeremy off this easily. He returned to his seat as if he was making himself feel more comfortable. "If you are going to be the alpha, then the beta position is empty, right?" he finally said what he aimed for from the start.
The moment he said that, Jeremy's eyes narrowed and turned slightly red. "You want my position after all?" he slowly said in an intimidating tone.
"Of course the beta position, as for the alpha..." James paused for a second while giving a mocking expression over his face, "you can have it all."
"Thud!"
Jeremy punched the oval table with his fist. However he wasn't slamming it out of rage alone. A piece of paper appeared under his fanned fingers. "I'm the alpha, no one has any right to fight over it with me!"
His voice thundered across the office while everyone stole silent gazes with each other. "Don't forget we need to vote to appoint you the alpha," James wasn't fazed by this useless act of Jeremy.
Besides he sent a hidden message to him through his words; either appoint me as a beta and have my support or I would stand against you.
"Did you forget that I'm just temporarily here as an alpha?" Jeremy decided to act as sly as that wolf in front of him.
"Then I'll promise once your sister returns to our world again, I'll step down from my position as a beta," James turned to the entire board members before adding, "I vow on my ancestors blood for that."
Jeremy couldn't say anything to disturb others at this moment. He held the paper to give him the right to claim the throne of alpha. However without the agreement of at least two thirds of the board members here, he wouldn't be one.
James was so sly in his eyes. He gained the full support of everyone before the meeting. 'It seems that your sister wasn't the only one acting in the shadows,' Jeremy thought to himself before he finally announced his decision:
"If I'm elected to become the alpha, then I'll appoint you as a beta. But I'll hold you responsible for your oath and the board members are the witness."
"Clap!" without second thoughts, James stood up and clapped warmly as if he was welcoming a hero. "I'm giving my vote to Jeremy to become the alpha," he said before returning to his seat. "However... Why do I see the elder council members missing?"
