There was no shortage of options, but Jake's mobility was somewhat lackluster so he decided that wings would be best. He looked at the magic circle and went into his training dimension before opening up the engraver and copying onto it. It took almost 30 minutes of moving back and forth before he finished engraving the design. Jake returned the book and moved into the living room of his dorm, where his group was all sitting in front the fireplace.
"Welcome back. Look at this shield I got!"
Yin held up a fairly average looking round shield, seeming to be proud of his purchase.
"Nice. What kind of stats does it have?"
"It's got 40 vitality and a healing bonus whenever I block an attack, plus!"
The shield closed down to be just the size of his arm so it was more mobile, but could be put into use at a moment's notice unlike the inventory system. It was pretty cool, but its practicality was limited.
"We are telling our best battle stories, I just finished telling everyone about how I was a cripple from the waist down until I awakened. I got super lucky that I awakened just before my home was attacked by a nearby gang. There were a lot of tigar beastmen, but I was able to get out with my fam and eventually retaliate."
"You want to join in? I would love to hear one of your stories."
"The most interesting one was when I got caught in a dungeon swap, and then it merged. I almost died but was saved by a group of adventures. I was able to take out one of the ten bosses first, but I ran out of mana soon after."
"You went into a dungeon alone?"
"No, Lexy from my battle class was with me."
"For real! I wasn't going to ask but is it true that you proposed to her?! I heard that you gave her an engagement ring."
"What! No, I just owed her the ring. In return for running the dungeon with me. It's part of a secret between the two of us, but it's not romantic."
Most of them squinted at him, not believing that it wasn't a romantic relationship.
"I am pretty tired, so I'm going to bed. See you all tomorrow."
"No no no. We are all together so you should stayyyyyy. Come on, it will be fun"
"Indeed."
Jake wanted to get to his crafting so that he could actually make this black jade phoenix pendant, but he also knew that this would be very important if he wanted to be a crucial part of the party. He sighed and sat down on the floor next to Yi.
Yi had skinny long arms, but on both sides were blades that extended from his armpits down to his elbow, and another one from there to his hand. It extended a few inches longer than where his hand ended. They were his natural blades, and were extremely dangerous.
"Before awakening I was already training. My strongest target was a member of human royalty. Without any skills from the system I had to get creative, but with some strong poisons and dagger to eliminate the chance of revival, I was able to get it done without getting caught."
"So you really killed a member of the human royal family? Don't they have really strong adaptability so they become immune to poisons when they awaken?"
"That's where creativity comes in. I found one that suppresses a human's resistance before the regular poison could be administered. It took a long time to find, but I eventually found a cell alchemist who could make it.."
"A cell alchemist? Isn't that the only known class that can cure cancers?"
"That's not all they can do but ya. They can reprogram single cells, which can be spread everywhere. Cancers can be counteracted with this, but with a blood sample from the target I got him to get something that could temporarily make them vulnerable to poison. It took almost two weeks to execute, but I did it.
"Wow, how much did you get for a job like that!"
"I'm not a fully fledged assassin, so I got entered to the guild competition so I could get here instead. The guild also paid for all of the materials, all I had to do was plan, sneak around, and then get him to drink one liquid, then get in a few weeks later to poison him then use the dagger. I was scolded for doing such a costly method, but I don't regret it as I got my goal, which they respected."
"What! You got scalded even after pulling off a high priority target asssasination without any abilities!?"
"He was right, I could have done better. I could have used some better tactics with a few high mana capacity batteries, anti-reviving daggers, and a bit of wiring."
"Still.."
The whole group was astonished by Yi's story, it was definitely more than any of them could do at that age.
"Enough about me, I want to hear how Ray got to be a champion candidate. The trials are pretty famous."
"Oh I love telling this story. So there I was, in my church praying in front of the statue with my brothers and sisters when I awakened, and then he came to life! The shark god himself took over the statue, talking in his booming voice, where he offered me to be his champion! That's when I had to face his trial. So I followed the god out to where we found a young killer whale, which I had to fight!"
"It was a super intense battle, but I got a blessing that was super strong which made it possible for me to win. Once I won I was given a bunch of EXP and became a champion candidate! I have to complete some more quests for the shark god before I can enter the rest of the trials, but once I do I can be a real champion!"
Just talking about it got Ray all fired up and ready to fight!
