“Let’s go inside and warm up.”

Andre glanced at the sun. “I’m not cold.”

“You haven’t been bathing in melted snow.”

Andre trailed me inside the house, most likely so he could eye my naked body. I was gratified it was deserving of his admiration. No shame in that.

After dressing, I heated mugs of tea, while I told him the major had stopped by yesterday. His gray eyes flickered. “He asked me to stay on. He would like to restore our relationship.”

“What did you say?”

We took seats at the kitchen table.

“I said yes.”

“So, we can’t be together any longer?”

I shook my head. “No, but I suspect this comes as a relief to you. What we were doing was riding your conscience too hard.”

He paused momentarily. “Perhaps, although I enjoyed our time under the blanket. How did you feel about it?”

“In truth, while I enjoyed it, it bothered me. Even though I looked at this thing through another set of eyes, I came to realize how deeply I had hurt James.”
