Caspian nodded. “Okay.”
Okay?Was it okay?
They drove in silence. Caspian knew where they were going, taking turns left and right once they got into Pendle. He stopped in front of a shabby looking house with dog pens all over the garden and turned to Flynn. “Are you ready?”
“This is the shelter?”
“Yeah.” He gestured across the street at a big stone building. “The vet is across the street, but this here is where they house the animals that aren’t in foster homes. Some do better if they don’t have to change their environment. They’ll stay here until they’re adopted.”
Flynn looked at a huge dog who was watching them from one of the pens. It looked sad. “What happened to him?”
Caspian shrugged. “I don’t know. I haven’t been here in some time. I end up with too many animals.” The smile he gave Flynn could’ve meant a thousand things. “Come on.”
Flynn nodded and got out of the car. Together they walked in through the door. Flynn’s heart was banging hard in his chest.
