Enzo carried his mother down to Gray’s car and gently placed her on the front seat and then fastened the seat belt. “Follow me. If I lose you, I’ll pull over and wait,” he told Gray.

On the way to West Long Branch, Gray agonized over whether or not he did the right thing. He finally broke down and asked his mother.

“Mom, should I let him do this for us? Isn’t it too much?”

“Gray, you like him. He’s finally noticed you. Don’t refuse yourself the opportunity to get to know one another out of a sense of misplaced pride. You’re a good man. Given the chance he’ll see that like I do.”

“Mom, you’re saying that because I’m your son. You have to like me.”

“No, I’m not. I’d grow to love you even if you weren’t my son. You’re eminently loveable.”

“Mommmm…”

“Gray, you have a chance, take it.” Genevieve, unusually insightful tonight, had gotten straight to the point.
