“What’s wrong, dear?” she asked, the smile gone, a serious face replacing it.
“I asked Howard to start things over again.”
“Is that how you phrased it?” Marjorie asked.
“Pretty much. I just asked if he wanted to go back to how things were ten years ago.”
“And what did he say?” Marjorie asked, taking a sip of her wine.
“He said, he’d let me know.”
“It’s amazing that the two of you aren’t on romance book covers, or teaching couples how to bring back the magic in their lives. Wow! You’re both making me more grateful for Gene than ever.”
“What does that mean?” Jason asked.
“It means that between the two of you, you have the romantic skill set of a school of dead fish. Jason, if you really want to spend the rest of your life with Howard, have you considered a proposal?”
“Well, isn’t that one?”
“It sounds worse than buying him cleaning products for Christmas. Really, Jason, I thought you had more finesse than this. So, what was his response again?”
