“So, if we were successful, you wouldn’t want to stay home, and I don’t know, cook our dinners?”

Howard looked at him with a look not unlike the ones Marjorie had given him when she was trying to figure him out. Jason watched as Howard seemed to weigh several things in his head. Finally, he spoke.

“Are you asking me to live with you again? Are you asking me to go back to the way things were ten years ago?”

Jason contemplated the question. Was that what he was asking? Close enough.

“Yeah, that’s what I’m asking,” Jason said.

Howard stood frozen. His face changed for a second, but then that damned game face appeared again. Jason knew that Howard was thinking hard.

“I’ll take it under consideration,” Howard said.

What did that mean? Was that a yes? Was that a no, or Howard’s way of telling him to take a flying fuck? Jason put his own game face on, and then tried to make his voice match it.

“Great,” Jason said. “Just let me know when you’ve made a decision.”
