Gabriel and Kane, working their way around the room came round to Etienne and Alexei. They shook hands again and Etienne stared at Kane’s eyes. Gabriel smiled. “Etienne, did you see that all of the Council Mates have green eyes and are of Celtic origin?”

“I did notice it in the first three, and now there’s a fourth, interesting. I may have my Betas round up every gay, green-eyed Celt in New York and the Home territories and parade them in front of the Council. It would be more efficient than this haphazard way we currently use to find our Mates.”

Gabriel laughed. “So true, I can afford to laugh now that I’ve found mine.”

“Not in the best of circumstances, I hear. There is still trouble?”

“Kane, could you get me another glass of champagne?”

Kane peered at Gabriel from under his lashes in annoyance, but acquiesced and went to find a waiter on the other side of the room.
