"Couldn't you stay put for once?" Madam Kong asked angrily. 

Master Xiao opened his mouth but before he could quibble with Madam Kong, Yu Le and Yu Jiao Yu returned. The two of them were panting and seemed to have returned after running around for a long time.

Yu Dong walked over to them and asked worriedly, "What happened? How did Mai and Cui disappear?" 

"We don't know, we were keeping an eye on them from the start," replied Yu Le with a frown. "But then the shop got crowded and we couldn't see anything. By the time we realised that they were missing, we couldn't find them." 

"So we went around looking for them," continued Yu Jiao Yu. He took out a piece of scroll from his pocket and handed it to Yu Dong, "And a child gave this to us when we were looking for Mai and Cui but—we can't read what's written on it." 

He was ashamed of his own illiteracy. If he could read then he would at least be able to read what was written on the paper.
