Morph leaps from the couch, chirping loudly. He dashes out of the room, nearly knocking Gaila down. Pushing Freya back, I run toward the door then into the hallway.

Rounding the corner, my sock-covered feet slide and I collide with the doorframe. Regrouping, I make my way through the open doorway and into the living room.

"Do not cry, little one," Vlad says, standing in the room.

Rushing up to him, I wrap my arms around his neck, pulling him close. He winces.

"You're hurt."

"Yes, but I will live. I am okay. Please do not worry." He kisses my lips. 'I told you I would never leave you.'

"What about John Spencer?"

"He got away. His men came to his aid."

"He won't stop looking for me, will he?"
