As always, at the usual time, our neighbors quarreled.

Whenever we sat down to dinner, the screams began.

«Someone should cut their vocal cords.»

«Haylee… »

«They can't possibly have to do this every time.»

«Honey, you know, we don't have the money to buy another house.»

Someone knocked on the door. I was about to stand up but my mother stopped me and went to the door.

«I apologize, but can you keep your voice down?»

«I'm sorry, but it's not us. It's the house next door.» my mom replied. «Do you live upstairs?»

«Yes, my brother and I have never had the opportunity to introduce ourselves. We work in the mine. And we would like to sleep at this time... I apologize if I disturbed you.»

«You're welcome.»

Christine sat down at the table again.

«So we're not the only ones who can't stand them anymore.»

«Haylee, they won't stop fighting just because you tell them to keep their voice down.»
