章節 212: Solving a Conflict? IV

Even after the one that could be considered the foreign element left Shuri's shrine home, the atmosphere might have become even worse than when he left.

Barakiel was still feeling quite defeated while Shuri was reeling from Jun's sudden departure and last words while Akeno who was listening in secretly was extremely conflicted.

In the end, despite being the one that got initially riled up or was getting close to it, Jun was still the one in a simpler mood. He accepted his relationship with the family of three would become inherently different from that moment on and moved forward.

For the mother and daughter pair however, it was not quite so easy. Regardless of the current situation, Jun was their saviour. To him, they may be just two people he saved, perhaps closer to him than a few others but that was all.

In Shuri and even more so in Akeno's mind however, Jun was a far larger existence, a saviour, a friend and a protector they could always rely on in case everything else failed for even then, he could give them salvation.

Whether that was the truth or not did not really matter, neither did the truth of whether Jun truly cared enough to go to such lengths for them but in the two's minds, it certainly felt that way.

Hence the mother and daughter pair were not feeling fine at all for that ever present feeling had suddenly been taken away from them.

Shuri gathered herself and left her brooding husband to find her daughter. She knew Akeno would not take it well and she would not be able to hide how things turned out from her, it would only make things worse when she finally discovered the truth.

Little did she know that, as soon as she left the room, she found Akeno silently crying, her back against the room's wall. It was thin enough than anyone closeby would be able to hear what went on inside so the reason for her daughter's tears became clear.

Shuri's eyes watered as well at the sight of her anguished daughter as she rushed to hug and comfort her.

"Let's go to that place and figure out what to do next okay. You're a big girl, you will find a way and okaa-san will be here to help you whenever you need." The older woman softly said and her daughter silently nodded amidst noiseless sobs.

The place they went, was Akeno's favourite place, the core of the bounded field Jun had laid upon the shrine mountain what seemed like ages ago.

The power swirling in that place, thickly protecting the only two beings that could control the field, the mother and daughter pair, made Akeno remember the feeling of being held by Jun.

And now that her family may have driven him away, even if just partially, she needed that reassurance and, if she did not wish to lie to herself, Shuri could use it as well.

Just be standing there, they felt safe from the world. Shuri loved her husband but love was not the only thing that made her hate seeing him go.

Every single time she got left alone with her daughter in her shrine, though she put a strong front to spare Akeno for her troubles, Shuri feared for both of their lives, especially her young offspring's.

She was not defenceless but anyone worthy of being her husband's enemy would find it extremely easy to harm her and their daughter should they come and her own clan might have been the ones to succeed with the thought they would be able to gt away with it.

And maybe they would have if not for Jun and his protection, including the bounded field he left for them.

Yet, her commitment to her husband might have jeopardized that. All the goodwill coming her way lately had been due to her good relationship with Jun.

Even the Shinto Gods she worshipped and Barakiel feared a war with commanded she and her daughter be shown respect as a sign of goodwill towards Jun.

The Himejima clan was under the control of her niece now and while Shuri knew Suzaku would not like anything that might shoo away Jun's favor, she would also not harm them in any way.

They were safe for now, there were no enemies to worry about, even if they came to lose favor and protection, they might not even need it that much at the current time.

It only made it seem as if she had only kept good relations with Jun while she needed his support and cut them off as soon as that was no longer the case. Shuri could only feel worse noticing this.

'Am I really that type of woman?' She wondered to herself.

Still, she was a loyal and traditional woman, she'd stick by her husband, even if he was wrong. Although Shuri might admonish him in private and punish him in her own ways when he screwed up, she would always stand by him in front of others.

That said, just because she felt the need to tie herself to a sinking ship, though that might be putting it too harshly, it did not mean she wished for her daughter to do the same, in fact, it was the exact opposite.

Shuri knew of her daughter's feelings and always encouraged her to pursue them. She would not let Jun's despising of her husband and his possible newly formed estrangement with herself to crush the chance for those feeling to be realized.

And that is precisely why she put her mouth close to her daughter's ear and spoke to her the following words, softly, yet firmly.
