Sue froze in her place. Her heart stopped beating. She kept holding her phone and trying to figure out why Rayan would change his number.

“Dear, you did not go home? Why are you standing here?” Judy’s voice cut through Sue’s thoughts. “Karl told me you were not fine today.” Judy looked at Sue, who looked wan. “Are you ok?” she asked.

“I have no one, Judy.” Then Sue started weeping, and Judy hugged her.

“Darling, I am here. You have me.”

Judy took Sue to her house, which is close to the art shop. At Judy’s house, Judy tried to know what bothered Sue that much. Judy knew for a long time that Sue was not the same young, full-of-life girl who Judy met earlier. This summer’s Sue was someone who suffered a lot. Someone who had new trouble every day. Yet, Sue, who was with her today, was another version, a deadly one. Judy felt what tired Sue today was something catastrophic that destroyed what was left of her.
