"Hello there sweety how can I help you?" The dark haired girl at the counter asks with a friendly smile.
Time to put on the charm. "Hello big sister, I was wondering if this is where I go to buy information on the dungeon, Also do I have to register with the guild for the information?" I ask in my childish voice.
"You do have to register with the guild to get information, however you don't have to buy it. When you register with the guild we will assign you a manager." She explains with a kind smile then frowns. "Are you intending to go into the dungeon?"
"No, I'm just here to learn beforehand." I tell her.
She eyes me critically for a second before smiling. "Okay, I'll need 100 valis to register you, and then we can find you a manager." She says as I dig in my pocket and pull out some of the money.
She reaches under the desk and grabs a few items, some paperwork and a pouch with a dagger clipped into the side in a nice black sheathe.
"Name and age." She asks clicking her pen.
"Ryan Grim, age 4." I respond.
"Familia?"
"None."
She doesn't stop writing as she fills out how I look before taking the money off the counter and putting the paper in a machine. A second later a couple of black cards are spit out and she hands me one with my information.
"Each new member of the guild receives a simple starting pack, a dagger, pouch, water canteen, some medical bandages and a food bar." She says unbuttoning the pouch to show the items.
There is a simple roll of bandages that smell like medicine, and a metal canteen, with a food bar pressed up against it. The dagger looks to be iron or steel I can't really tell. But the kit looks nice.
"Now we just need to find you a nice manager hmm?" She says with a smile before pulling out a roster. "Valerie seems to be free, do you have any problems with race or gender?" She asks.
"Nope."
"Perfect, follow me." She says leading me to a back room.
She opens one of the rooms and shows a simple looking office with a blonde haired woman, she has pale skin and slightly pointy ears, however it's her blood red eyes that gather my attention.
"Valerie I see that you are free on the roster." The black haired receptionist asks.
The blonde frowns slightly and sighs. "Yeah my last client went off and got himself killed."
"I have a new client here who needs a guild manager." The black haired receptionist says pushing me forward.
The blondes frown deepens as she looks at me. "How old are you?" She asks.
"4 but I dont intend to go into the dungeon anytime soon, I'm here to learn." I tell her as her frown lessened. "I don't even have a familia so it would be rather useless for me to go down there."
She seems to think about it for a second. "Alright, you'll be my last student. I was planning on quitting but if you make sure to listen to me I'll stick around and be your mentor." She says with a slight smile.
"Quitting? Why?" I ask curiously.
"I'm a vampire and I've been working for the guild for a very very long time. All of my students have passed away and its rather depressing. So you will be my last, I hope you don't disappoint me and rush off and die." She says with a sad look.
Vampire? I thought she was an elf!
"That's why I'm here to learn." I tell her.
"We will see, alright I'll take him." She says holding out her hand and requesting for the paperwork.
The black haired receptionist smiles slightly and hands over my documents before leaving.
Valerie reads the file quickly before putting it in her desk.
She pulls out a small booklet and passes it over to me.
"This is basic information on the first 5 floors." She explains.
I quickly open the booklet and start reading, with my eyes I simply have to glance at the page to memorize it however I take my time and read all the information.
Monsters, Rare monsters, Monster Parties, Herbs, Ores, Rare ores, Rare herbs, How to dissect monsters, where the monster core is found for each creature, the known weaknesses, it was a really comprehensive guide.
"Do you have a guide on what familia sell what and where to find them? I've already memorized this book." I ask passing the book back over.
Valerie raises her eyebrow slightly as it had only been about 10 minutes. "Of course do you mind if I ask you a few questions." She ask before digging out another larger book.
"Sure."
She then proceeds to ask various questions about everything in the book I just read. I answer them all perfectly.
"So you have a perfect memory?" She asks calmly.
"Ah yes, I only have to see something once to memorize it. However I made sure to read everything closely." Perfect memory is a great cheat to have.
She pulls out a bunch of larger books. "Memorize these as well and I'll give you a test when you are done."
It's a comprehensive guide to every floor down to floor 30. About 20 minutes later I'm done and she is asking question after question.
"What do you think the most dangerous creature in the dungeon is?" She asks after about half an hour.
"The other adventurers, more than likely they would see me as some kind of bonus prize and try to kill me for my loot." I admit.
"Smart child." She says with a grin. "Often the most dangerous enemy is the one holding a dagger behind you."
People are greedy and unpredictable, this city also has drugs and other various addicting items that I would have to be very wary of. I dont need some drugged out junkie trying to stab me for my money or sell me for drugs or drink.
"That's why I intend to train and master some skill before even stepping into the dungeon." I tell her before going over the list of familia and thier specialties.
"What do your parent think of all this?" She asks.
"Orphan so those are out of the picture." I explain.
"So you live in the orphanage? Does the matron know you are here?" She asks.
"No I don't live in the orphanage, I just arrived in the city today. I have zero intentions of going to some orphanage and being bossed around and treated like a child. So I'll probably find a cheap in to stay at until I believe I'm ready. I'm sure I can find some way to make funds." I inform her.
"Sounds like a childish plan if you ask me." She says with a smirk.
I just smile back. "Then what would you do almighty guild manager?" I ask.
"Find a nice familia to settle down with." She says.
I just snort. "I havent heard alot of good things about most of these familia, not to mention all the contracts I would apparently have to sign. So basically just sell myself into slavery for some minor resources as they probably wouldn't see any benefits from raising a new child." I deny instantly.
Most of the families have contracts or requirements, the more benefits you recieve, the stricter the contract. I'd have to sell myself basically for training, food and gear.
