Spaulding Apartment, Chicago, Saturday, January 9, 2038
Cyrus woke up to the sound of city street plows, scraping along Spaulding Avenue. The January sun would be rising above Lake Michigan, which could not be seen from the Callahan apartment, but the sky was bright and cloudless.
He put on his robe and walked into the kitchen with the intention of starting the coffee. He was greeted by Lena who was drinking tea but had already made coffee for the others.
"Morning, handsome," she greeted. "Sit, I'll pour you a cup."
"Thanks. How did you sleep?"
"I would say like a baby, but I heard that one at least three times last night," Lena said, pointing towards April's room. "But really, it wasn't bad. It's been a long time since I was in a house heated with metal radiators."
Cyrus laughed. "Sometimes they clang... Lena, did Kat tell you about Sundial and how they are wiping us out of existence?"
"Yeah, she told me that's what the big meeting is going to be about today."
