Slowly, Ross extracted a leather folder from his suit pocket and flipped it open. The word Interpol stood out on the plastic ID card. Besides Ross' photo, the card revealed his full name and position: Ross Brenner, Special Field Agent, North American Division.

"North American Division?" Allie threw him a defiant glare. "What are you doing in Europe?"

"I'm on field training here on the continent. You're my first real case, and Martin Parrish?" Ross shifted his gaze to the older man, "is my supervisor."

"Was," Parrish corrected. "I've decided to take early retirement." He flicked the gun again. "Now, if you two will take a seat on the sofa, we can finish up our business here. I'm afraid I can't stay for cocktails. I have a plane to catch."

Replacing his ID, Ross touched Allie's elbow and followed her to the sofa. As soon as he took a seat, she moved a few inches away from him and placed the case with the goddesses between her feet.
