"I do not see why you think that this is impossible." Doc moved forward just a little and glared at the egg sparing hagfish that was my birth mother. "Ocean is clearly a Siren. It is easy to see that just by looking at him. He looks nothing at all like a Merman, or a Selkie, nor any other inhabitant of the sea. He was also born on the day that your baby went missing. And he was abandoned on the beach where you left him after killing the woman named Dolfine."

It was clear to me that Doc was trying to rile my mother up. He was trying to get a rise out of her. He wanted to make her lose her cool. I didn't understand why at first. Why would he want to piss her off? Why would he want to make her angry?
