li’Morl stayed utterly quiet during my whole story, and James managed to keep his mouth closed, but his arm got tighter and tighter around me. I forced myself to focus on the dream. It meant something, I knew it did, and we needed to figure it out. For all of our sakes, not just my own. For James’ sake.

When I finished, I waited for someone to say something, but the only sound was the coffee pot percolating. Finally, I looked up and found both men with their chins tucked, like they were deep in thought. “Well, somebody say something.”

James rested his chin on my head and rubbed circles on my back. li’Morl bobbed his head, then glanced at me, finding my eyes right away like an invisible laser ran between us. “Do you have your talisman?”

My brain did a little double take. “A talisman? Um, no. I don’t have one. Whatever that is.”

li’Morl continued to look at me expectantly. “Of course you do.”
