Rosa watched her hand for a while, debating whether to open the mask. She has done it once before in front of Nicholas, but the expression on his face hint repulsed. She did not wish to make him go through it again. It made her hate herself. Still, she could not put down the request made. Her hand went to the back of their neck as she tugged on the string of the veil.
The small transparent cloth fell on her palm as her right hand put it on the side. This time Nicholas did not go back. Instead, he reached over and grabbed her chin lightly. Rosa blinked as he watched the scar on her neck.
“Is this the one from the camp?”
Rosa blinked her eye; she could only speak after he let go of her chin. “Yes, there was an ambush.”
Nicholas sat back on the chair. “Was it hard?”
Rosa tilted her head with the question, “I don’t remember; honestly, the only thing I was thinking of was surviving and saving Brother Tom first."
