Maxwell already knew what was going on in the relationship between the two youths. He knew what Trevor's fears were and what Max's problems were. Glancing at Trevor, he just nodded slightly and sipped his tea. "You seem uncomfortable with this relationship?"
Trevor just stared at him open-mouthed, taken aback by the question and not quite knowing how to answer, "I am comfortable with Max... When we are together, I feel like I am free of all my worries... I love being with him, and when I can not see him, I feel like I am suffocating..." he said in response, not knowing if he had given the older man a correct answer.
"Well, anyone can be comfortable with Max, he's a good kid when he wants to be. I am asking you if you are comfortable enough with him in this relationship to see yourself as his lover, his life partner, the person he'll count on most in his life, the one who will share his burden, and so on..."
"I do not know, Grandfather... I just can not think about the future or plan anything about this relationship... I really wish I could, but I think I am scared..."
"What are you so afraid of?"
"I do not know, I guess I am scared of everything... My family drama, my lonely life, I do not know what I can actually give him... He's Max Klayne and I am, I am just Trevor..."
Maxwell said nothing. He knew what the boy was afraid of, and he could understand his fear. These were problems a person should deal with on their own, so he chose to not comment on that.
"Look at him, he seems so uncomfortable being surrounded by all these people trying to win his favour," Maxwell said out of the blue, pointing at Max who was surrounded by people trying to talk to him.
Trevor could see how annoyed Max was because he frowned and grabbed his nose from time to time... Trevor only let out a small smile as he looked into his man's annoyed face.
"I bet he can not handle their smell now, I mean Omega's seductive pheromones..." said Maxwell. Trevor just looked at him curiously, not understanding where he was going with that statement.
"Because he's so infatuated with you and only wants to be with you, it's like he's almost bonded with you," Maxwell explained calmly.
Trevor was shocked by those words. Sure he knew Max loved him, but he did not realise the man was already so deeply in love with him. And he did not know that an Alpha could get uncomfortable over Omega's seductive pheromone. At that moment, Trevor remembered that Max had not marked him. So instead of being unaffected by the seductive pheromones of others, as an Alpha would be if he had already bonded with his mate, Max was fighting those pheromones, that's why he felt such discomfort.
"You know, being in a relationship is as complicated as it is simple. If you are already comfortable together if you can not sleep well without seeing him once a day, if you can not stand people around him because you want him to only look at you, then that already means he's in your heart." Maxwell looked at Trevor fondly, he knew he was already in love but he just did not know how to deal with everything that was happening to him. Besides, his family story wasn't helping.
Trevor listened in silence, knowing that everything Maxwell had said was the truth. He had long since realised that his heart now belonged to Max.
"The hardest part is making the relationship work and lasting a long time. You have to learn how to consider your partner's needs when you make a decision, you have to trust each other, understand each other, learn how to deal with each other's anger or jealousy, or other feelings... In summary, you need to learn how your partner thinks, acts and reacts... You both need to make more of an effort to understand each other." Maxwell looked Trevor in the eye as if to see if he understood everything he was trying to say.
"But if you want this to work, you need to see where you want this relationship to go. So at some point, you need to think about what the future might look like for the two of you.
I know you are scared because of your mother and because of your dad's family. You do not want to think ahead because you do not know what will happen when they know you are doing well. I know you do not want to get Max in trouble because they are so greedy, but you have to trust Max on this one. Besides, Max is not your father, if you already know a little bit about him, you probably already understand that he's the type of guy who settles down for a lifetime. If he was the player type, we would not even be able to count his exes." He said before adding, "Even if we can not count his sex partners ..." He smiled teasingly. He saw Trevor automatically frown after hearing about Max's old life.
"That's also why we did not stop him when he was fooling around, because we knew he was desperate looking for " Maxwell paused and looked Trevor in the eye "you"
Trevor blushed deeply, feeling embarrassed... It was always a good thing to talk to Grandfather Maxwell. Trevor knew he could always count on him when he did not see the end of the tunnel. He understood him just like his own grandfather and always knew how to cheer him up. He took all of the older man's advice in stride. The older man was right, Max was not his father, so why was he so afraid of settling with him? He could not understand why he did not have so much confidence in himself.
While he was lost in his thoughts, Maxwell called out to him softly, "Maybe you should go get him, I think he's about to burst out," he said, looking in the direction Max was standing. "He may put up with these people to give his mother some face, but he had a bottom line, and looking at him now, I am sure he already can not take it anymore..."
Trevor looked at Max at the window and saw a girl clinging to him, obviously trying to flirt with him, and putting her arm around Max's. He could see Max trying to extricate himself as politely as he could with his mother standing right next to him. Trevor clenched his fist inwardly and looked at the girl, frowning. Maxwell did not have a hard time seeing the little guy's sour face and just chuckled.
"Um, Grandpa, I have to go take care of the flies around my honey!" Trevor explained before walking out, leaving Maxwell with a satisfied smile on his handsome, wrinkled face.
When Trevor appeared at the door, Max's gaze fell on him and did not leave him for a second. Trevor looked at Max with the same intensity, giving him a sweet smile that bared his white teeth, and his green eyes cleared. Max was dazzled by this simple gesture. At this point he still cared the least what the girl could say, he heard nothing, his eyes and mind focused only on Trevor coming towards him.
Maxwell, who was watching them on the second floor by his study window, just shook his head, thinking that his grandson was a lost cause. Seeing Max's eyes light up as he looked at Trevor, Maxwell thought that the men in his family were too absorbed when it came to love. He looked at the picture of his spouse and just smiled, reminiscing about the past.
