I hold her, naked, kissing her again, on her cheek. “How do you think that makes me feel?”

Should I show her? Let her see it in me?

And from the lounge, there is the click of a lock, the clunk of a door, footsteps….

…. At last…. Michael….

“James? Charlotte?”

“In here, Michael.”

Her head turns. As the footsteps approach, I stand, still holding her at the waist, stroking her, as we watch our mutual reflections. And as Michael steps into the room, his eyes meeting mine, full of question, her face lights up.

“Change of plan, Michael,” I say. “We won’t be going out this evening.”
