CHAPTER 22

A yellow car pulled up on the gravel road and parked right in front of the cottage. Catherine had been relaxing on the couch for the last hour with Bowen, lazily observing out of the window directly facing the road. As recognition hit, she could feel giddiness rising inside of her, and with a wide smile she unlatched herself from her beloved and ran outside to meet the visitors. Danny climbed out of the passenger side first and stood up just in time to catch her in a full-body hug.

“Hey!” He coughed and sucked in air. “Can you stop slamming into me every time I visit, huh?”

With a final squeeze, Catherine pulled back and released him. “Sorry,” she said with a laugh. “I’m just so glad you’re here.” She heard Bowen walk up behind them, and while Danny heartily greeted him, she turned to Bella, who was stepping out of the car.

“Cathy!”

With small, quick steps, they hurried to the front of the car and met in a springing hug.
