Chapter 7
….
I just look at Amelia with a smile on my face, not portraying at all what I am thinking. Well, no use crying over spilled milk now.
Seems like a change of plans is in place.
"Thanks, captain, I was nervous about this," I tell her.
"I know." Says Amelia, with that look on her face that makes me contemplate if she knows something I don't. "Anyway, take your weapon. This place is not one you want to walk around without a weapon."
Well, at least I can bring a weapon with me. Now the plan has changed… Amelia… she has to go now.
…
After picking up my ax, which is fully made of metal and has a big head part. I just put it on my back and stand next to Amelia as we dock.
She always keeps her hand on my shoulder. It makes me nervous, this plan of me escaping without a fight seems kind of far-fetched now.
But still, I finally can calm myself down. Panicking won't help me in any way.
I and Amelia walk down the cobblestone road and she starts explaining things to me. "Well, listen to me Max, if there is one thing you want to do is… do not spend your money like other pirates."
"Hm?" I am confused by her advice. After all, why would she tell me something like that? "I don't understand…"
She calmly pats my head. "Well, most pirates spend their riches on whores, alcohol, and many other useless things."
"Ok," I answered her. "Then what do you spend your earnings on Captain?"
I am a little curious about this, as Amelia doesn't seem the type of person to hire a whore or drink too much. We are similar in that aspect, I wouldn't mind drinking alcohol. But when drunk one doesn't have control over themselves, and that is the worst.
Doing something illogical, needless, and stupid. I would rather bash my head in a wall than do that.
"Well, I spend my earnings mostly on real estate." Answers Amelia, she smiles as she sees me look at her with a slightly surprised look.
She is more like an investor than a pirate. Truly smart, she is using her crime money to fuel her investments. She didn't need to say anymore as now I finally understood what game she is playing now.
Amelia is not a pirate, she is an investor first. I bet that she has a lot of sketchy backdoor deals. Truly smart of her, I bet she doesn't plan to stay in the business for too long… wait…
Like a lightning bolt, I feel that I finally get why she is teaching me things like this. She might be training me to become her future successor and the next captain of her crew!! At least something along those lines, as she maybe wants to make deals with me 'when' I become a pirate.
Sadly for her, I have no plans of becoming a pirate. It just doesn't offer all that much to become one. A Marine is different, sure I have to follow the orders of the higher-ups, but if I don't like them... then I will just desert the marines. There is always a choice, people have chains in them and feel like there is only one choice only because their mind thinks so. The world isn't that simple, there will always be multiple choices.
"Anyway, let me show you a good and quiet place where one can eat here." Says Amelia calmly. "Unlike the other rowdy places on this island, that one is quiet."
…
…
We arrive at a nice-looking restaurant with a fancy feeling to it. Mostly because it had marble walls and the tables seemed expensive.
The diners were all dressed nicely, and even though they looked at Amelia, they didn't say anything. The diners didn't even sneer at her or me for wearing such casual clothes.
At that, I can safely deduce that Amelia is more influential than she seems. I think her bounty is in the 20+ million. But that is mostly because she keeps quiet.
…
We are led to the balcony, overlooking the forest opposite the city.
As she sits down I notice Amelia let down her guard and relax. Immediately my mind goes to the thought of attacking her right now. But that thought goes away as she still has her weapon within arm's reach.
So in the end, I look at Amelia, and as the food comes we start eating and that is when I decided to tell her.
"Amelia." The first surprise to her was me calling her by her name and not as captain. Now to pull her out of her game. She looks at me and I continue. "I am leaving the crew and I am in love with you."
For that split second, I saw confusion in her eyes and that is when I took the chance to flip the table to obstruct her view as I changed to my hybrid form.
Boom!
I punch through the table and Amelia can't even react as my fist lands on her face.
*Crack!*
I attacked her suddenly and out of nowhere. But I still felt her bones crunch under my fist.
She flies backward and lands in the yard of the restaurant. Her weapon was still left on the balcony and I breathed a sigh of relief at that. This was another advantage in my favor.
I use this time to jump off the roof and attack her with my ax.
Fwish!!
Once more, due to the previous hit, Amelia can't react as her head is separated from the rest of her body.
The battle ended as fast as it started, I used the confusion and it seems like I over-prepared for the fight. But that is good. Amelia was going to always be a thorn to my side, I want to become a marine… so any association with pirates must be gone. Also, I will need to kill the crew too, just in case, they might decide to look for revenge. Can't let them grow like a festered wound. They could become lethal if left to their things.
This is the first time I killed, but I was mentally prepared for it. People panic when they first kill because most of them happen suddenly. But a prepared mind can handle it better. I feel no pleasure, nor regret from killing, which is good.
Because my Devil Fruit is a Carnivores Zoan, so it's supposed to make me a little more fierce. But humans have learned to control their instincts a long time ago. I might have eaten the Bear Bear Fruit, but I was still a human. A Devil Fruit is nothing more than a took available to me, it's not my key to power, though it does help.
Now… time to kill the rest.
…
…
Half an hour later and the nice marble-walled restaurant is covered in blood. No one must know anything, and that is all there is to it. I used my ax to kill them as cleanly as possible. I will massacre this whole island if I needed to.
Now I must go and kill the crew. Nothing personal against them, it's just looking out for myself.
…
…
To kill the crew members I take a more subtle approach, I just go and search through the bar that they are drinking at and find the rat poison. I just put it in all the beer kegs in heavy amounts. The poison will kill them all now… together with some bystanders. But that is a very easy and necessary sacrifice for me to make.
After the poison took effect, I cut off their heads just to make sure.
…
...
After that, I go to the ship and see that Crock is the lookout on the ship. I am back into my human form as I go towards him with a smile on my face.
"Oh hey Max, whatcha doing?" He asks as he seemed a little drunk, he most likely drank some alcohol by himself.
Fwish!
He can't react either as I use my ax to decapitate him. There must be no witness...
"Why?" Was the last question he asked as his head landed on the ship's deck. I didn't answer him, after all, what was the use of a dead man knowing anything?
I thought maybe I would feel bad after killing every one of the people who saved me. But on the contrary, a feeling of relief washed all over me.
No longer would I have to live on fear of Amelia figuring out my intentions or anything like it. She had my thanks for saving me, without her, I would have likely starved to death on that island. Sadly she was careless and took me for granted.
….
Max had a chance and he took it. He could see that he wouldn't have his future in his hands. Also Amelia didn't save him out of the goodness of her heart either. She saved him because she thought that he would be thankful and loyal to her for that.
Sadly for her, Max isn't like that at all. Feeling indebted? Yeah, he doesn't really care.
