章節 23: Come, And Go As I Do

編輯: EndlessFantasy Translation

Chris's gaze was cold as he devoured Albert's memories.

All of this had been caused by the imperial family of the Sky Eagle Empire. The king of the Sky Eagle Empire was severely ill and on the brink of death.

The heir to the king's throne was Prince Chad, an ambitious person who wanted to devour the elves.

However, he had never had any reason to do so due to the restrictions set by the Ashuta Treaty. Thus, he had secretly sent mages from the Sorcerer Army to hunt down elves.

When the elves lost their rationale, the Sky Eagle Empire would then attack the elves in the name of maintaining peace on the continent.

"What an elaborate, vicious scheme," Chris said in a low voice.

However, the Sky Eagle Empire would never succeed as long as he was around.

After understanding the cause and effect, Chris had a cold look in his eyes as he gazed toward the southwest direction of the continent, where Sky Eagle Empire was located.

In the past six months he had spent with the elves, he had felt a warmth he had never experienced before as Elder Norton and Aunt Miene cared for and protected him.

It did not matter who wanted to break this balance. They would have to seek approval from his fists first.

Only death awaited them.

There was an abandoned wooden hut in the deepest part of the courtyard.

A powerful Assault Magic Formation that emanated forceful energy had been set up on the hut's periphery.

Even an Intermediate Mage would instantly lose their combat ability if they were hit by this energy.

However, it was not worth mentioning when placed in front of Chris.

He still remembered the vaguely stunned expressions on the elves' faces after he had rescued them.

In fact, he had been tailing the elves until they had reunited with the other elves. Only then had he returned to the Ancient Tree of Knowledge.

This incident had shocked all the elves.

Countless people were discussing who on earth this mysterious necromancer was.

Why was he helping the elves? Even they had been helpless in finding their missing clansmen. How had the necromancer found them?

Too many things had happened to the elves recently. First was the theft of Rufael's skull, the appearance of a Saint-level powerhouse, and finally, the disappearance of the elf team.

All this indicated that there was a huge conspiracy enveloping the elves.

However, the return of the elves had lessened the pressure on them.

While Chris continued studying magic in the Ancient Tree of Knowledge, a grand meeting was being held in the elves' meeting hall.

The Elf Queen sat at the head of the table, while Elder Norton and the other elders sat below her with a solemn expression on their faces.

"Everyone, there are too many things happening to the elves right now, and it must have been hard on all of you elders. What does everyone think about this necromancer who suddenly appeared?"

The Elf Queen looked at the silent elder and continued, "Many elf teams went missing when we were rounding up the hunters."

"We've been investigating for a long time, but we never got any accurate information. However, they have all suddenly returned."

"According to them, they were saved by a necromancer wearing an Undead Mask. But that's where things get odd."

The Elves had been staying in Boundless Forest for many years, but they had never come into contact with a necromancer.

What exactly was the purpose of this necromancer, and why had he saved the elves?

The Elf Queen's doubts were precisely what the elders could not understand. Most necromancers had fallen ever since the Lich King's rebellion.

The elves believed in nature and peace. The magic they cultivated also tended to be on the gentle side.

It was the exact opposite of what necromancers pursued. This matter was strange in every way, and they could not help but feel a headache forming as they thought about it.

"My Queen, I don't think we need to be worried for the time being. If he's saved our people, that would mean he's at least friendly to us."

Just then, Elder Norton said in a low voice.

"Could there be a conspiracy behind this?" one of the elders voiced his opinion.

"I don't think so. There would not have been any need to save our people if he wanted to harm us. He just needed to poke the fire a little to cause us even more headache. He would not have needed to waste so much effort."

"You're right. I agree with Elder Norton. At least for now, this necromancer does not seem to have any ill intentions!"

The Elf Queen nodded. In fact, what everyone said was almost the same as what she had been thinking.

They had to remember the other person had saved their people no matter what his motive was. He would need to be thanked profusely the next time they met.

While she was still deep in thought, the terrifying poison erupted once again. The Elf Queen grunted as she lost her balance and nearly fell onto the ground.

She hurriedly set up a magic formation around her to cover herself.

The elders beneath her had terrified looks and wanted to come closer to hear when they noticed, but she stopped them with a shout.

"Don't come over, this green gas is contagious." The Elf Queen was still a little scared when she thought about it.

The last time she had been at the Spring of Life's palace, her poison had erupted again, and it had been even more violent than the last few times.

These toxins were like blood-sucking leeches, devouring her life force and magic powers from her. Her personal maidservant had been helping her up when the green gas entered her maidservant's body.

Fortunately, she reacted quickly and immediately cut off the transmission channel. Else, there was no doubt her maid would have died.

After all, her maidservant was only a Beginner Mage and it would be difficult for her to fight against such an aggressive poison.

Even she, a Saint-level powerhouse, had only half a year left to live after being corroded by the green gas.

The elders were all stunned after they heard the Elf Queen's explanation. They had not expected the lethal poison to be that deadly.

Not only would it devour the elf's life force, but it would also enter another person's body through transmission mediums. They had lived for countless years, and while they were not erudite and knowledgeable, they were still learned after experiencing countless tests and troubles.

However, they had never seen or heard of this poison before.

A poison that could corrode a Saint-level powerhouse was extremely rare on the continent. Thus, it could be said that the mysterious Saint-level powerhouse must be an extremely powerful person.

When they thought of this, a shadow of worry that the elders could not get rid of appeared on their faces.

The Elf Queen stayed in the magic formation and suppressed the poison with all her might. The green gas lingered on her face, appearing and disappearing at random.

The poison had erupted in its entirety this time and although she was a Saint-level powerhouse, it still took her three whole hours before she managed to suppress it completely.

"My Queen..."

Elder Norton wanted to say something, but the Elf Queen waved her hand.

She knew her situation. The more frequently the poison erupted, the longer she needed to suppress it.

Not only that, but the life force in her body was also decreasing rapidly. She might not even be able to make it to the half-year mark.

Even if she told them about her situation, it would only add to their worries.

"Come, and go as I do!" the Elf Queen muttered to herself.
