Queen Beatrice hugged Prince William one last time. William took her hand. Together they descended from the tower and down the dangerous, slippery, winding stairs. Prince William let out a few choice curse words as they did.
It didn't take him long to explain to her why. "These are quite a lot of stairs. You shouldn't have come up here in your condition." He chided her, referring to her pregnancy. "I've put you in harm's way." He cursed himself.
Seeing the mask of distress on his face worried her. William had always worn one that was calm, cool, and collected. Beatrice stopped their descent and placed her hand on his forearm. "Please, stop. You saved my life. I did what I thought I had to do to protect our child. I promise I will rest once we get to my chamber," she tried reassuring him.
