章節 6: Chapter Five: Brats and Bullies

So most of my "Bullying Stories" aren't actually bullying. Mostly because it was more two sided then another person just being mean to me. It was more of an... on going feud. Well there are actually two cases that I could qualify as "Bullying(ish)" but while the first one is more of a feud the second is more of a rivalry. But I'm only telling you the first story today anyway so it doesn't really matter.

So for context this all starts when I'm like eight years old. If you've ever heard of after school care programs then this is where that takes place. If you haven't well then look it up. So my school had two play grounds, one that was level with the school, and another, bigger cooler one that was down hill from the school. We called it the "Lower Playground", the people in my town have a knack for naming things I know, we are so creative. So next to the actual play structure there was a set of swing sets, three sets, each swing set having two swings so sick swings on the swing set in total. What a tongue twister! So there was this counselor Rick, and her liked the forth graders, he was in charge of them and they were generally his favorite group of kids. I was in third grade, but the fourth and third graders, along with the fifth graders, generally stayed together.

So Rick and some fourth graders and hanging out on the swings, my friends are playing super on the grassy part of the hill. But I, being the sophisticated third grader that I am, have chosen instead to sit in the grass and pull petals off dandelions. I must not have thought this all the way through because when I was left with a boring stem I didn't really know what to do with it. So I threw it away. Unknowing I threw it in the direction of one of the fourth graders. A miss Olive Stuart. Who abruptly turned around, looked offended, and then blew a raspberry at me. Being the self respecting (and stubborn) third grader I was, I couldn't stand for it and pulled the bud off another flower before tossing it at her, now on purpose. She looked mad now but I really didn't learn my lesson so, seeing at there were no more flowers in sight and I wasn't about to rip up perfectly good grass (obviously) I picked up a handful of wood chips and chucked them at her.

And you can't imagine my shock when she did the same. And I was even more shocked she decided to go on the offense. She and her friends chased me around and threw wood-chips at me. I would hide under the play structured, they wood poor them through the little gaps and make them fall in my hair. So there were seven or so fourth graders chasing on third grader around throwing wood-chips at her. I would trow some back when I could but mostly it was them chasing me. Eventually some of my friends noticed and decided they didn't like it so they threw some back on my behalf. Rick of course sided with the fourth graders but at this point there was no stopping this battle. And so began the great wood-chip fight of 2014.

The next year we came back to school and the war began a new, instead now We were the forth graders and they were fifth graders. The difference here is that now we were civilized when we fought, throwing words instead of dirt and rocks. Rick still treated them like saints despite the fact that they were complete jerks (mostly Olive).

Most of her friends weren't super mean, they were just trying to defend her I think. Some of them were actually kind of nice and tried to get her to stop sometimes but Olive was determined to be a brat. This was mostly just this one girl named Kathrine, she was a twin (a fraternal one) and the other one, I think her name was Amelia, hated me. Side note there were like a bunch of twins in my school. In the after school program alone their grade had two sets of twins, one fraternal (Cathrine and Amelia) and one identical, I think their names were Gianna and Rhianna. I could never tell them apart, though they didn't really care about me that much, they kinda did their own thing most of the time. There was one of her friends that was almost as much of a brat as Olive, her name was Cait, and she was awful, she was rude and mean and was always ALWAYS looking for a jab. She was also Even shorter then us and had these big eyes, she was Rick favorite and so whenever we did something after they provoked us she would run over to him and tell on us like she hadn't done anything wrong. Me and my friends laughed at her because she was shorter than us despite being a year older. And I know bullying was bad but this was like the only thing we could latch on to. Like they had every advantage, the game was completely rigged. Like when they saw us fighting Olive would be told to please stop and I would get a time out for being mean to Olive despite the fact that most of the time she came over to me to start fights.

When I started Middle school I remember the first day she was on my bus, and even worse I had to sit with her because I was the last stop and there was no where else to sit. I remember she was being really nice the whole time. And honestly to this day I don't know is she was trying to make fun of me and I didn't get it, or if she was being sincere and had actually become a descent person in the year since I'd seen her.

Now it was unfortunate for me that my troubles with elementary school brats wouldn't end here. But that is a story for another time.

That's all for now!

Love Ya,

Lissa
