CHAPTER START---
From the moment Law woke up at UA, the first thing he began working on, as always, was himself.
While the heroes were preparing for their own battles, students and parents alike were grieving.
His classmates were constantly trying to get in touch with him and calling each other crying about what happened.
Some were even training harder than ever before, blaming their own weakness for what happened.
Law left UA and immediately went to his nearby building in Musutafu. Only 5km from the school, locking himself into the medical suite which most of his properties have.
Currently, that's exactly where he was, trying to solve the mystery of his own body, but unknown to him, he'd done all that his Quirk or any science could do.
So sitting on a metal chair wearing only a pair of shorts, surrounded by all his medical equipment.
Law's body operates on his head, which was harmlessly decapitated and placed on the table in front of it, trapped in a vice to keep it steady.
There was a monitor in front of his face and a camera directly above him, looking down into his exposed brain so he could see what he was doing along with his ability to simply sense it, visual indicators were critical in operations like this.
His movements with the scalpel and tweezers are more precise than ever as he does the final inspection on himself.
Looking at the monitor with his one eye he makes a few more adjustments and quickly heals them, then moves to clean away the excess blood.
As he puts the final touches on and places the top of his head back on, Law frowns at his own work, at himself. Then moves to place his head back on his neck.
After two days of non-stop work, he still couldn't find the one thing that was holding him back.
He simply couldn't make any sense of it, exactly as Dr. Ujiko predicted would happen.
After over a century of research on genetics and Quirks, Dr. Ujiko only recently identified this issue, and has yet to find a reliable solution to it.
If it were a matter of science then Law would have found it immediately, Ujiko is sure of that much.
But this is a matter of the 'heart' and 'mind' not being aligned.
Something so out of the realm of medicine that Ujiko went mad before he could figure it out. The practical effects of psychology on the human mind and body.
The answer was so ridiculous that any genius medical professional would have to be crazy or stupid to ever consider it.
'You simply don't want it enough,' is exactly how Dr. Ujiko would explain it, and if Law knew what it was, he would absolutely agree.
Law was able to do what Dr. Ujiko could not, he solved the issue of the physical form handling multiple Quirks.
Through his focused and obsessive work ethic, Hand Of God now acts in a way similar to All For One within his own body, acting as a pseudo-host while All For One was the true host to the other Quirks.
While All For One is somewhat of a switchboard with access to multiple Quirks, Hand Of God uses his additional Quirks to buff itself by an order of many magnitudes...if only Law could access all of that power.
Now all he needs is the answer Dr. Ujiko has about the mental side of this process, and the mad doctor needs his answer to the physical form.
"One last check," Law mutters as he puts himself back together, getting up from his chair and walking to the washroom.
Standing in front of the mirror he sees himself looking almost exactly the same, his hair was cut a bit shorter by Recovery Girl to inspect his fractured skull properly.
His white eyepatch was still over his left eye, covering the empty socket.
And bits of his skin were still pinkish and would be for another week or two, from where they were torn apart before he regenerated entirely new flesh these past two days.
Placing a hand on his chest he focuses on himself, "Scan," he mutters, going back to the absolute basics.
Veering all the way down, what would have strained his previous energy limit before felt much less substantial now.
Once again he was able to study himself down to the unchanging Telomeres and his own helical genetic code.
"Huh, the extra energy from the Quirks that were killing me, is the only reason I can fix myself...great," Law grumbles as he continues his in-depth scan.
"I don't sense anything wrong. I integrated them perfectly, but...things still hurt when I draw on too much power for anything. That shouldn't happen, that doesn't even make any sense. Everything is perfect within my body...maybe I'm missing something."
He does another Scan, still finding nothing.
"Mmm, fine, one way to figure this shit out," he summons his phone to his hand for the first time since leaving UA, seeing the battery running low and a hundred missed calls from his classmates, Pixie-Bob, and Nezu, combined of course.
He immediately calls Nezu.
"Hello, what's wrong?" Law asks, still looking in the mirror.
"I couldn't get ahold of you these past two days, is everything alright?" Nezu asks, clearly worried.
"I was operating on myself, he messed up some things that'll take me a while to fix. I think it's feedback from when I resisted his Quirk. I can walk it off."
"Oh, I see, I finished reading your report about that fight, I saw you mentioned that, and he was after something aside from your Quirk apparently, any idea what it was?" Nezu asks. "I've decided to edit your report somewhat before I pass it to the commission, so this won't be mentioned to them."
Law sighs, "right, because if people know All Might apparently has something that he wants and that's why some kids died they'll be pissed at him and UA...but no I don't know what. But he was convinced All Might gave it to me."
"He didn't tell you?"
"No, but you clearly know what it is, so care to explain why I almost got killed?" Law asks, slightly annoyed.
"That isn't my secret to tell, unfortunately."
"Well, you could have at least warned me that there was actually a person that can steal Quirks running about. Maybe I wouldn't have gone around announcing how powerful my Quirk is if I had a heads up!"
"We thought he was dead, that All Might killed him. I understand how frustrating this is to you, but some secrets aren't mine to tell. I'm sure you of all people can be thankful that I'm so respectful of the wishes of others," Nezu says.
Law takes a deep breath and calms down, "yeah, you're right. Plus I don't think I would have believed you, a Gene Modification Quirk is a bit far-fetched, even Monoma's Quirk is super rare. But one that lets you permanently alter your genes and the person you're touching. That's insane."
"Yes, if cloning science wasn't so far along, a few centuries ago he would have been in Mystery Class with you and Star."
They both fall into a comfortable silence for a moment, just imagining the damage such a Quirk could do had it been revealed to the general public. Or had he gotten ahold of either Mystery Class Quirks.
"Have you made any posts yet?" Nezu asks, breaking the silence.
"Posts?"
"The medical reports from the attack were leaked, I'm currently narrowing down exactly who leaked it to the press and they'll be dealt with severely. But people are terrified of the damage you sustained."
"Can't really blame them," Law shrugs, raising a hand to touch his eyepatch. "Almost anyone else would have died from just half as much damage, go ahead and tell them I already healed from the injuries and I'm taking some time to get back into fighting form."
"I'll do that right away, but the sooner you make a post the better, seeing is believing after all," Nezu says.
"Maybe later, right now I need to come back to UA, I need a lot of your robots and access to my training area...and my new sword."
"I thought you said you needed time to recover from what happened to your mind."
"Yeah, and this is how I need to spend that time. I'm not sure how to deal with what's happening, the more I use my Quirk the more I'll know, trial and error Nezu."
"Well, you're the doctor, I'll have everything sent to your training ground for you..."
"Thanks," Law hangs up and rests his phone on the sink.
He leans forward, putting a bit more of his weight on the sink before reaching up and ripping off the eye patch, exposing his stitched-shut eyelids.
Reaching up he uses Mes to easily remove them, and the skin immediately droops down to reveal the empty socket.
The nerves within were already healed, so he knew what he had to do.
Taking a few deep breaths he grits his teeth and summons his scalpel back into his hand, and immediately insterts it into his eye socket.
"NNNNGHHH!!" he groans in pain as he has to destroy the healed tissue at the end of the nerves that would have connected to the back of his eyeball.
"FUCK!" he drops the bloody scalpel in the sink and leans forward, allowing a few drops of blood to fall into the sink, actively suppressing his brand new Automatic Regeneration instinct.
His Quirk would now immediately open the smallest possible Room whenever he's injured and begin healing, even if it wasn't optimal.
That's why the ambulance couldn't leave without him constantly falling into critical condition, any time he left the room the healing would stop, and moments later a new Room would form to restart the cycle.
Fighting the urge to put a hand over his eye socket Law looks into the mirror with a pissed-off expression, willing more and more energy into the newly injured nerve endings so the eyeball can regenerate properly.
Surprisingly his right eye, the large and bright light blue pupil, begins flickering. Appearing like a glowing crystal at this moment.
He has to fight the urge to jolt back in surprise as a thin blue mist begins pouring out of the left eye socket and dissipating in the air, and moments later he feels a brand new eyeball forming in his skull.
And as the new eyeball is fully formed, drops of blood flow down from the eye socket like tears, pushed out by the new eye.
It too flickers for a few seconds before both eyes glow solid bright blue.
For all of two seconds they glow and release the thin blue mist from their pupils when Law gives them more energy, until...
"ARGH!" Law groans and shuts his eyes, feeling his brain in a vice once more and the same problem takes hold again.
Like hot spikes being hammered into his skull.
After a long minute to catch his breath, he looks back into the mirror and grumbles, "ok...that's new. But the glowy eyes take too much energy, so I'll just set that aside for now. Right now I just need to see what I can do about this damn mental feedback..."
