"Dara…" someone whispered in her ear. She tried to open her eyes and get up but she was helpless. "Who…who's there?" Dara exclaimed. She was sweating badly. "Shhhh…" that person gently put his hand on her mouth, "It's Wade my love."
"Wade is that really you?" Dara tried to find his face.
Wade held her hands and placed them on his cheeks. He kissed them and said, "Yes my love. This is me."
"Where have you been?" tears rolled down Dara's closed eyes, "Why can't I open my eyes?"
"I don't want you to see me Dara."
"Why not? My eyes have been waiting to see you for so long."
"Dara I've always been with you. I've always been in your heart."
"Wade…" Dara cried, "I just want to see you once. It's been years now."
"Dara I've to go now. I just came to tell you to remain safe."
Dara held Wade's shirt, "Please stay Wade! Please! I can't lose you again!"
"Dara I'll be back. I'll be back with a surprise I promise."
"Why do you even have to go?"
"Dara it's complicated. I'll tell you when I come back."
"Just tell me one thing, did you came here before? That was you, weren't you?"
"Which you thought was a dream. Yes love that was me."
"Are you really a vampire?" she asked.
"Dara this is the reason I've to stay away from you. I don't want anything happen to you."
"Wade I'm much safer with you." She held his face tightly.
Wade leaned on her to kiss her. Dara could feel his sharp teeth touching against hers. He bit her lip and whispered, "I've always loved you."
"Wade!" Dara exclaimed as she got up on her bed. It was middle of the night. She thought it was a dream. She was about to sleep but her lip hurt. She turned on the lamp and touched her lip. She could see blood on her fingers. She rushed to the mirror to see. It was the bite which Wade gave her while kissing. "It wasn't a dream. He actually came." Dara said to herself, "He's here."
Dara couldn't sleep. She rolled on her. She took out her drawing pad. She turned over the pages, "So this is why I've been having the dreams all those years. I was a werewolf." She sighed. She pulled off the pages from her drawing pad, "I don't need this anymore." She threw them in the dustbin.
She laid back on her bed. She kept on thinking about Wade. No one could love her more than him. "I should have told him I'm a werewolf." Dara sighed.
In the morning, Dara decided to end up everything with William. She felt stupid to trust him. "How could I ever believe anyone can love me more than Wade?" she cried, "Charles warned me about William but still I let William have me. I thought he actually loved me."
Dara texted William, "I want to have a last conversation if you're comfortable."
She went upstairs to have her breakfast. Her grandfather was not on the table. She waited for him at the table but he wasn't there yet. She asked the maid about him, "Why isn't he down yet? Is he still asleep?"
"He's not well. He's very sick." the maid told.
"Have he seen the doctor?"
"He's been seeing the doctor for years. He's getting sicker day by day. He knows he isn't left with much time this is why he called you here so that he can spend his last days with his granddaughter."
"Can I go see him?"
"He's asleep just now. I'll let you know when he'll be awake."
Tears rolled down Dara's cheeks. The maid put her hand on Dara's shoulder, "Don't worry Dara. This is how life is. No one lives forever."
Dara went to her room and called her father but his number on another call so she called her mother, "Hey mom!"
"Hey darling! How are you?"
"I…I'm good." Dara sobbed.
"Dara is everything alright? Why are you crying honey?"
"Mom granddad…he's…he's sick, a lot of sick."
"Dara don't worry. He'll be fine soon. Me and your dad are planning to come visit him this week."
"Please do hurry. I miss you both too. You're always too busy to even call."
"Honey you know how hard and tough life is in the city." Ellen spoke, "So how's school going? You made any more friends?"
"Yeah it's going okay. Mom I'll talk to you later."
"Okay honey take care. Love you!"
"Love you more!" Dara hung up.
"I hope everything gets better soon." she sighed.
After sometime she got a text from William, "Meet me at the park near your house."
Dara got ready and went to the park. William wasn't there. She waited for him. She sat on a bench and waited. An hour passed but he yet wasn't there. "Why would he even come?" she exclaimed.
She was about to leave when someone said from behind, "Sorry I'm late!"
She turned around. It was William. She uttered, "I don't really care."
"Dara, I want you to stay away from me."
"Well I'm telling you to stay away. I can't even believe why I fell for you on the first place."
"I know you think of me as a bad person but I truly love you. There is stuff I can't tell you."
"Stop making excuses William and accept what you did!" Dara exclaimed.
"You know what, you were right. I never loved you. I never even cared. That isn't you fault Dara. I am like this." William exclaimed in anger.
"I wish I knew you were being fake all the time." Dara cried.
"Huh…sorry I shouted." William uttered, "Listen! I want you to leave the island. This is for your own good. Things are not really good on this island. It isn't how it looks."
"You can't just tell me what to do." Dara was pissed off, "It's a goodbye William." Dara turned around and walked back home.
"Is granddad awake yet?" Dara asked the maid.
"He woke up an hour ago. I told him you went to meet a friend."
"Should I go meet him?"
"He's asleep right now."
"Can I just go see him once? I really miss him."
"Sure you can. Just try not to cry in front of him."
Dara went to her grandfather's room. He was laying on his bed with his eyes closed. Dara sat beside him and held his hands. "Granddad I hope you get well soon." tears rolled down on Stephen's hand, "I don't want you to get sick. I want you to get better. I want to see you smiling. I wish I could spend all those years before with you." Dara wiped of tears from her face and got up. She was about to leave when Stephen held her hand. She turned around.
"Flower…" Stephen tried to speak.
"Granddad…" Dara sat beside him again.
"I don't have much time left." he coughed while he spoke, "Being a member of Garland's family means you have great responsibility. There is a diary in my closet. It's written by your great grandfather. He has told his story. I want you to read it and understand it. I want you to take the responsibility."
"Why're you talking like this Granddad?" Dara cried, "Nothing's going to happen to you. You get that. You're going nowhere. I won't let you."
"You know you'll always be my flower."
Stephen's hand left Dara's. He stopped breathing. "Granddad!" Dara tried to wake him up but she couldn't. He was dead. "No! Granddad!" she cried.
The maid came running upstairs, "What happened?"
Dara looked at her and hugged her. "He's no more." She cried.
The maid stood still on the ground. It was a thunderstruck for both of them. Dara sat beside her grandfather and cried endlessly.
In the evening her parents arrived. "Mom!" Dara rushed towards her mother and hugged her. She cried, "I…I saw him die. I saw him die in front of me."
"It's going to be alright honey."
"Where's dad?" Dara sobbed.
"He's taking out the luggage. He'll be inside in a bit."
Greg entered the house and Dara went to him. "Honey!" he hugged her. Both of them cried.
It was Stephen's funeral the next morning. People made great speeches. It was a very big funeral. As he was the head of the island, almost everyone on the island joined his funeral. It was told that Stephen made a will before dying in which he said that all the Garland family's responsibilities and the property shall be given to Dara when she turns twenty. Till then, the responsibility of the island shall be on his son Greg Garland.
"I'm sorry about your Grandfather." Ashley came to Dara.
The time wasn't with Dara right now. "Everyone has to go one day." Dara mocked.
Dara saw Charles standing at the corner. She went to him, "Hey there!"
"Hey!" Charles uttered while tears rolled down his face, "I really liked him a lot. He was my friend you know."
"He never told me."
"I told him not to."
"Why not?"
"Dara I really need to go right now. I don't feel good."
"Sure Charles. Take care."
Dara felt so alone. She just wanted to hug Wade and cry endlessly. She really felt so alone. It felt like she had no one to talk to.
