"Why? Did something happen?"
"Nothing happened, I just feel that I don't need any therapy," Ivan answered.
"Are you sure?" When he nodded his head, Amber smiled at him. "Okay, I am happy you don't need any therapy but if you ever feel the need for some therapeutic interaction, the door is always open for you."
"Thanks." Getting up, he added, "I'll see you around then."
After Ivan left, Amber felt quite weird. An undefined foreign feeling crept through her heart as he walked out of the door.
Shrugging off the feeling, she picked up her phone and called Renna again. When the latter still did not receive the call, Amber walked towards her desk, pulled out a file and started looking for Renna's form which had her address in it.
After finding it, she grabbed her bag and walked out of the office.
….
Outside.
As she was impatiently waiting for her cab which was ten minutes late already, a black car pulled out in front of her.
Rolling down the window, Ivan snuck his head out. "Hey, do you wanna go somewhere?"
"Yes, I am waiting for my cab." Looking around Amber remarked, "I thought you already left."
"I got a phone call so I was talking—anyway, do you want me to drop you?" Ivan asked. After coming out of the building, he sat in his car contemplating if he had done the right thing and why he had done that. Perflixed and debating with himself on whether he should go back or not, he saw Amber step out of the building.
Thinking she might be waiting for someone, he also waited for a while before driving towards her.
Hesitating for a while, she politely rejected his offer thinking it might be inappropriate. "Thanks, the cab is already here so—"
"Are you sure?"
Glancing at the watch, she pursed her lips. She was already late and the cab was nowhere to be seen.
Without saying anything, Ivan unlocked the door for her. "Come on in, I am a very safe driver."
Left with no other choice, Amber hopped in his car.
….
Inside the car.
"Where do you wanna go?"
Passing him the address, she sighed, "It's kinda far—I guess I'll just take the cab, I don't wanna trouble you."
"It's alright, I am free all afternoon and evening today." Turning on the engine, he drove out of the premises of the Saint building.
Taking out her phone, Amber tried calling Renna again. When she did not receive her call again, she asked Ivan to drive faster.
Looking at her panic and worried expression, he asked, "Is everything okay?"
"I hope so," she sighed. "Renna is one of my clients. It's been a couple of weeks since she hasn't turned in for the session and is not receiving my call either."
"So you are worried about her?" When she nodded her head, he remarked, "Maybe she is busy."
"I hope so but I still wanted to go and check on her just in case—also for my inner peace." Knowing how toxic Renna's marriage and husband was, Amber felt very uneasy when she couldn't get in touch with her. She had never missed her sessions and also called her occasionally just to let her know she was okay. But for the last two weeks, Amber did not hear anything from her.
"You seem to care about your clients a lot."
"Of course, they come to so that I can help them out and if I don't care for them, how are things gonna work?" she explained. "And not everyone needs special attention but there are some who do."
"And Renna is one of them?" When she nodded her head, he asked, "Do you think I would also be one of them? Someone who needs special attention?"
Shrugging her shoulders, she answered, "Guess we'll never know."
