There was no movement at all or just the scraping of a twig outside the window. Suddenly the world became silent as if it had lost its sound from the earth's core. Or if possible, humans had been deaf for an indeterminate time.

But strangely, Wendy's soft snoring could still be heard by Daniel. They slept side by side, often awakened by sharp hallucinations from an actual assault that had occurred.
