Davin was having a meeting with five of the kings, or officials as he liked to call them, from some of the small kingdoms. The officials were complaining to him about the disappearance of people in some small secluded villages in there kingdoms.
"When did you first notice that there are people missing?" Davin questioned them. They all just stared at each other and one of the spoke for the other four.
"It was about three weeks ago milord."
"Mmh... And why are you telling it to me just now?" Davin was furious for he was the one who looked over all of the kingdoms in the land of Vastonbull. "How would I know that you did not take part in the disappearance of those people?"
"Oh no milord, we would never do such a thing." one of the officials said while bowing his head. One of the guards stationed by the doors approached Lord Vindwell and whispered something in his ear.
"Let them in." The lord said to the guatd. "And tell them to wait for me till I am done with this meeting."
The guard opened the door for Lilly and Matilda and told them to wait for the Lord's meeting to end. "The lord said we wait here till he is done with his meeting." Matilda whispered to Lilly.
The meeting went on for another thirty minutes and Lilly got tired of just standing there. She decided to sit down on the floor since she was exhausted. She saw a couple of eyes fall on her. It was considered rude to sit in front of a king or the lord himself without being given permition but Lilly didn't care right now.
Davin didn't mind the little action. He instead smiled to himself because he was amused as no one had ever had the guts to do or say things this little birdie of his said to him.
When the officials turned there heads back to Davin, he wiped the smile off his face quickly. The meeting was finally over and the kings stood and bowed there heads to Lord Vindwell. The kings then saw there way out of the room.
Matilda had left Lilly by herself because she had other things to attend to. The sun was setting and Lilly was so tired that she slacked off on the floor she sat on.
Davin went and stood next to where she sat. Her legs where brought close to her chest and she lay her head on her knees. Davin squatted down to her level.
"Hey... Little birdie." He sung the last part as Lilly raised her head. "If you wanted to sleep so badly, you could have just said so and I would have given you my bed." He grinned at her.
Lilly just stared at him without a single word coming out of her mouth. She was too weak to throw insults at him.
"Come on let's get you something to eat." Davin offered his hand and this time she took it since she was weak and tired. He pulled her to her feet and helped her stand up straight.
He lead the way to the castle's grand dining hall.Lilly followed him silently but still kept notice of the turns of hall ways and corridors. The doors to the dining were already open so Davin walked in with Lilly a few steps behind.
They walked to the dining table and Davin sat at the end of the long table and left Lilly standing. Seeing that Lilly was very weak as she couldn't stand properly, he offered her a sit next to him.
Lilly sat down and many different kinds of dishes were presented at the table. The smell of food reached her nostrils and she felt like digging right in but she knew better than to do that.
"You don't have to hold yourself, we both know you want to stuff your face with all the food that is here like a peasant." Davin said as he placed some steak on his plate.
Lilly chose to ignore the last part as she wasn't sure if he was serious or just playing around so she hesitantly reached for the fork and knife placed on the table.Davin watched every move she made and he saw how hesitant she was .
"You know if you keep moving that slow, you might end up passing out before even tasting the food. And that will be such a waste."
"Well with the way you are eagerly wanting me to eat, one might think you poisoned the food." Lilly said as she was placing some steak and salads in her plate.
"Now why would I do that?"
"How would I know."
"Well there must be a reason for me to want to poison you."
"The way I see you, you don't look like the type of guy who would want a reason for killing someone." said Lilly as she took a mouth full of the steak.
"Oh wow would you look at that? She knows me already." Davin smirked as he studied how delighted she was to finally have something to eat.
Lilly was so focused on filling her stomach that she didn't realise Davin's gaze on her. Lilly finished eating and she wiped her mouth with the cloth she was provided with.
Lilly saw a girl walk in to the dining hall. The girl looked beautiful with a slim body, fair skin, her clothes looked of high class. She held herself well and kept her shoulders high up. She looked like no ordinary human. Her eyes were red like Davin's but a bit lighter. If one was to look her very closely you would think that she was not human.
"Oh no, not this one again." Davin whispered to himself and sighed. He put up a fake smile for the lady who walked in.
"Good evening Lord Vindwell." Said the Lady with excitement evident on her face. She walked to the end of the long table and moved past Lilly to Davin and gave him a peck on the cheek.
"Good evening Bethany." Said Davin with no enthusiasm at all. He stood up from his sit." Come on birdie we're done eating."
"For the last time stop calling me birdie." Lilly said while grinding her teeth.
"Davin, who is this servant and why are you letting her talk to you like that?" Bethany addressed Lilly as a servant after noticing that she wore the servants' uniform.
"Fine then how about I call you my servant?" Davin ignored Bethany and replied to Lilly. Lilly now realised that this really was Lord Davin Vindwell as she had heard a few people call him that. She knew better than to spit back insults at him as he was as stubborn as she was.
