章節 98: Magic Swordsman
New disciple acquired! Others acquire a harem, not me! I'll have to slack on that soon. But I truly can't resist. I want to become as godly as that fictive guy with a rodent sidekick!
[Alright, wyvern let's fly and avoid the guard towers!]
I jump on her back.
"Master! Flying over may be dangerous!"
[How so?]
"There is a master on their side. One that can use long-range deadly magic.]
[Tell me more.]
"He can create an extremely humongous and destructive sword of mana!"
[Enough to reach the air?]
"I believe so!"
I see. What now?
[Then we'll just sneak under the earth. You'll make us a tunnel!]
"This…he can somehow detect that too master!
Such a pain.
[Alright. I know what to do. Wyvern let's go.]
I look at the others. Even the two still kneeling guys.
[You guys go by tunnel after we distract them. Meet on the other side]
My new disciple nods. Then we take flight.
"This is extremely risky, human. Ah, you aren't one actually, right?"
[You can still call me that. I used to be one in another life.]
She seems mystified by my answer.
[In any case, I need you to fly fast and steady. Also, listen to my directives.]
I can see that she is a bit nervous but trusting. Before long we are above the sturdy-looking tall guard towers. Made of stones with glyphs inscribed all over it. I get the feeling there is a formation on each structure too.
No matter. Our goal is not to fight. Just to pass through. Below I can see soldiers pointing at us. All of them panicking. From time to time there are arrows and even some spells heading our way. My companion expertly dodges them all.
[Why do I get the feeling you are oddly used to this haha.]
"Hey don't judge me! Stealing cattle is an ART!"
That is when it happens.
*WHOOSH! *
*SQUEAK! *
The wyvern brusquely accelerates. A giant blade of energy just misses us. Right on our tail. I was expecting it and yet it is still hella impressive. Just the concentrated mana inside is phenomenal! All of it wielded by some guy on the ground.
[What was that sound anyway? Are you a proud wyvern or a duck?]
"We are about to die! Now is not the time for…!"
[Head to the ground. I'll face him.]
"Are you crazy this guy is…! Actually, never mind."
She just dives toward the ground at high speed. He just looks at it happen. I bet he is happy about it in fact. But hey, at least on the ground I can use my magic better.
We accomplish what can only look like an emergency crash landing. I jump off her back and head toward the guy. He is wearing a black long coat with a green lining. Well, I can only say one thing. He's got style! He scoffs.
"Your imitation of our clothes is poor. It shows at first glance that it is a fake."
I take that back!
[What do you mean an imitation?! My getup is way better! Screw you man!]
"Hehe, you think I will believe such a shoddy lie?"
[…]
"What is your goal here, speak!"
[I just want to go through without any issue.]
"Lie after lie. As expected of a demon spawn."
[What are you even talking about?!]
He readies his sword. The energy sword is in fact coming out of it. The size did go down to accommodate closer range fighting it seems. He can probably extend it at will hence the need to be careful. Then he starts swinging.
*THRUST*
*SLASH*
I barely avoid these. I can feel the power contained behind each attack. Leaving fissures in the ground. Cleaving rocks as if butter.
[Calm down and let's talk this out!]
I try, but no matter what he only becomes more and more violent. A true madman.
That's when I feel something. I don't know why or how I know. This man wants me dead. That is when he screams.
"All demons should die! AHH!"
I can see the hate in his eyes. Hate so very deep. One that doesn't seem logical. It is our first meeting after all.
"I will kill you! I will kill that wyvern! I will liberate the world!"
Liberate the world is it? The humans are prospering from what I know. How is he so ignorant yet so powerful?! But here is the issue. He is powerful but that's it. Compared to the ghost, he lacks finesse in his attacks.
I simply look at his mad eyes. Red from fury. It instantly tells me where he is about to attack. The more it goes the better I get at reading him.
"Why! Can't! I hit! You! Damn demon!"
Every word accompanied by a slash. One that I evade by sidestepping. Nothing more. This man is in dire need of psychological help. The right thing to do is obviously to help him!
I make my way over to his side. Slowly but surely. Evading a rain of attacks. Looking straight into his frenzied eyes. Until finally I reach him.
"I'll kill you! Even if I have to die! Then I'll kill every single demon you've ever talked with!"
He can't help it is all.
"I'll kill everyone you've ever loved!"
I get real close and I hug him.
"I'll murder every single last of-"
That is exactly when I create some vines with nature magic. Then I slowly and ever so delicately…. Gauge his heart out. Then I throw it away.
He looks at me in disbelief. Confusion written on his face. Wondering what happened. Then he falls.
Humans are such weak creatures. Ones that should definitely be protected. Ones that can accomplish great things. Ones that are capable of beautiful things.
I could let this guy live. I could try and convince him. I could do many things. But I can't and won't take the chance. I have seen the hate in his now lifeless eyes. One that won't easily go away. One that is not rational.
I do not wish to risk my friends. I do not wish to risk my disciples. I do not want anyone to die because of me. With him alive, I see many many people dying in an unnecessary fight. From both sides.
*Sigh* This is for the best.
At least I do believe.
At least my journey can resume now.
