51.72% IN HIS ARMS / Chapter 45: Sunset

章節 45: Sunset

I got home the next day and I felt tired.

I thanked Nick as he parked in front of the house and I got down.

I didn't have any clothes to change into but luckily, Chloe spends some time at Nick's apartment hence, leaving some of her clothes behind.

I'm in a white top, blue jeans, and the white converse I wore to school the other day.

Fortunately, today's Saturday, so I don't have to worry about school.

"Raven?" He calls my name as I close the door.

I turn to him. "Hmm?"

"Don't blame yourself for it. Okay?"

I nod. "Thanks. For everything."

He smiles. "I'll call you later." He says and drives off.

Wait!

I don't have his contact and I'm not sure he has mine either.

I seemed too tired to think about it so I walked inside the house.

I stopped at the door and took in deep breaths.

I can do this! Just open the door and walk in like nothing happened.

But as soon as I entered the house, I felt suffocated.

Immediately, I felt drawn into the moment when uncle Mark was at home.

Suddenly, he was in front of me. Suddenly, was in front of me. The events of yesterday came back in a rush as it all played out in front of me.

I saw as I walked towards him. I saw as I ran into the kitchen and grabbed a knife.

I saw as I stabbed him and as he staggered backwards until he fell down.

And I saw the pale, fear-strickened expression on my face as I watched my uncle on the floor, unconscious and bleeding.

The sudden ringing of my phone jerks me out of thoughts and I jump out of shock.

I take a deep breath before I answer the call.

"Hello?" I say with a shaky breath.

"Hey sweetie!" He says too happily.

"Hi Miles." I greet him.

"Hello to you too. Say, are you busy?" He asks.

"Not at the moment. Why?"

"I was thinking if I could take you out today...." He trails off.

I was wasn't doing anything right now, and this house felt too cramped and suffocating for me.

Going out with Miles is better than me slowly going crazy in this house right?

"Sure. Where do you want to meet up?"

*******

When Miles told me I should meet him at the train station, I thought we would go someplace else from there not freaking follow him to go sight seeing the whole state!!

"What do you mean you can't go?" He asks when I decline his offer.

"What do you mean I should got?" I ask back.

"Look I promise you it's going to be fun okay? We would stop by at each little town and take a little tour."

"That's exactly what I don't want to do Miles."

"C'mon. Don't be a kill joy."

"That's exactly what I'm trying to be!"

He sighs. "Fine. We would only go to a town."

"Or," I begin. "We can just go round our own city through out. It's not like you and I are busy."

He nods in agreement. "You're right. We can just go anywhere to see it!" He turns to walk away from the train station.

"Wait! See what?" I ask but he's already ahead of me. "Miles! Wait up!!!" I run after him.

So through out the whole day, we were sightseeing our city.

First, we went to an arcade house, played lots of games and lost lots of money. Then we went to the museum.

I don't know what or why we went there, but in less than twenty minutes, we left.

Not to judge or anything, but to me, just staring at a piece of paint on a paper for a while trying to feel something just felt plain time wasting.

I mean, how can you just stand there looking at a piece of paper and then you tell me you understand the artist?

Yeah. Real waste of time.

We also went to the town square. On our way, we talked about anything that came to mind.

"So you're telling me, you'd rather stay at home all day and do nothing than to go out and have fun?" Miles asks me.

"Yes I would."

"Why?!"

"Well, I actually find peace in staying alone in the house with nothing to do than to go outside and get myself in trouble."

"Get yourself in trouble?" He repeats.

I nod. "Yeah."

"You're one of a kind sweetheart."

"I'd take that as a compliment so thank you." I smile at him and he smiles back.

In no time, we got to the town square. Turns out, there was a trade fair going on.

We took pictures, played games, helped a few people here and there, and before I knew it, the day had passed.

We decided to have a late lunch together which was mainly pizza.

Miles kept checking his watch for the time, and when I finally wanted to question him, we were interrupted.

"Sir?" I turn to see a man behind me. His head was bowed a little just like how Ross bowed to Nick.

"Ah Santos. You're here." Miles greets him.

"Here are the keys you requested for."

Santos walks forward and hands Miles a car key.

"Thanks. You can go now."

Again, Santos bowed his head a little and left.

"Who's he?" I ask Miles.

"How can I say this? Let's say my right hand man?" He stares out the window. "Nah. He's more like an handy man." He snaps his fingers. "He's my handyman."

"Handyman?" I repeat.

He nods. "He does all my work for me. He's a very useful guy."

"Since when did you need an handyman?"

"Since when I knew I needed one." He says back. "My dad got him for me and boy has he been useful."

Sometimes I forget almost everyone I know are from stinking rich families.

"Shall we go? I have a surprise." He stands.

I also stand. "Surprise?"

"Yeah." He takes my hand and leads me out.

"Aren't we going to care the bill?"

"I'm sure Santos has that covered."

We walk to a sleek black Mercedes C300 and he opens the passenger door for me.

I hesitate before I get in and he walks to the other side before entering.

"This might take a while." He says and winks at me.

What?

Approximately an hour and a half later, we reached a beach.

He parks with the trunk of the car facing the beach side, and the front facing the road.

"Why did you bring me to a beach?" I ask him when he opens his door.

I followed suit and also opened mine.

"I wanted to watch the sunset with you."

He walks and then sits on the trunk of his car.

"We should see it any moment now."

He taps the empty space beside him and I hop on the trunk also.

Minutes later, I could see the sun setting into the ocean.

It felt so surreal. It felt like the water was swallowing the sun as it gently went down.

The sun reflected on the water with made it more mesmerizing and beautiful.

"Breath taking right?" Miles asks beside me.

I slowly nod since I couldn't find the right words to say.

"You feel like you can't take your eyes off it no matter how hard you try right?" He asks again and I nod.

"It's so beautiful right?" He asks and I nod.

"That's how I feel everytime I see you Raven."

And that did it.

This was the first time he had ever called me by my name.

It's either sweetheart, or, sweetie, or honey, but not Raven.

I take my eyes off the sunset and I turn to Miles.

He was close.

Too close.

"I wanted to show you exactly how I felt each time I see your face, each time I see your smile, each time I hear your voice." He tucks a strand of my hair behind my ear. "Because darling, you do a whole lot of things to me."

I couldn't look away. It was like I was I was paralyzed by his eyes and words.

It was the first time someone had said such words to me and those words moved my heart.

No one has ever compared me to the sunset.

No one has ever told me I was mesmerizing.

No one has ever told me these words but Miles did.

I could see him slowly moving closer to me and I kinda knew what he wanted to do but I didn't react.

I closed my eyes and let it happen.

What did Chloe says again?

Ah yes.

I should stay clear from him.

Don't you think it's already too late?

I think to myself as I feel his lips touch mine.
