"What did you just call me?" Lisa asks in disbelief.
"I believe you heard me." I say confidently.
"Are you out of your mind?" She shouts angrily. "You think saying a boring ass speech is going to change who you are?!" She was practically boiling now.
But I didn't care.
"Fine! I throw myself at the teachers. Fine!! I give BJs for extra cash! Fine!!!! I've had sex with practically everyone in school! But you know what?" She smiles. "They all loved it. They all did! The teachers, the students, everyone! They, loved it. And you know the funniest part?" She pauses. "I don't regret any of it."
What is wrong with this girl?
"I don't." She smiles. "Once they had a taste of me, they couldn't stop coming for more." She shakes her head. "They couldn't. You know why? Because I give them the satisfaction no one can."
"You are sick Lisa." I say and she laughs.
"Oh please. Tell me something I've not heard before."
"Why are you against me?" I suddenly ask her.
"You wanna know why I loathe you?" She asks and I nod.
"It's simple. You came into my life." She pauses. "You came into my life and took my parents attention away from me. My parents who would do anything I ask, suddenly stopped the moment you entered my house."
"My parents died Lisa!" I try to reason with her.
"Who the fuck cares if your parents died!" She shouts. "The fact here is that you came and had my parents attention. For years, it was always about you! Honey, share your clothes with Raven. Honey, share your room with Raven. Honey, take care of Raven. Honey, do this, do that, all for one fucking Raven!!!"
"So you hate me because I came to stay with you guys?"
"Yes. I couldn't just let a stranger come into my home and feel welcome." She shakes her head. "No. I had to make sure a stranger will always remain a stranger. Nothing more."
"So you turned your mom against me." I state.
"Which was the best thing I ever did. I mean, look at how perfectly life has turned out for me." She smiles.
Then suddenly, her smile drops.
"I can't say the same for you though." She eyes me. "What a pity. But at least the good part is that I enjoy seeing you in pain." She smiles again.
What?
"You are crazy."
"I said tell me something I haven't heard before Evans!" She shouts. "Evans. What a lousy last name."
"But that's your mom's last name." I point out.
"And she married my dad. Henthsworth. Thank goodness your parents are dead. They don't have to bear that shitty last name anymore."
What?
I don't know where the rage that went through me came from, but I did know it was the one who pushed me to rush to Lisa and push her down.
You fucking bitch!" I rush to her side, climbed on top of her, and I started hitting her.
She takes my hair and pulls it. I also take a handful of hers and I drag it.
I hit her face so she releases her hold on me so I get up and move away from her.
She also stands up while holding her cheek.
"I should have made you kneel for me." I say to her. I was already seeing red. "And trust me Lisa, I will make you kneel for me."
"In your dreams loser."
"I fucking hate you Lisa Henthsworth."
"And I don't fucking care!" She shouts, grabs a flower vase that's in the hallway and hauls it at me.
Thankfully, I ducked and it hit the wall, smashing into pieces.
I look at the broken pieces on the floor.
"Oops." I turn to Lisa who is looking innocently at me. "I don't know how I'm going to explain to my mom about how you broke her favorite vase."
"What?"
"What a fun story it's going to be." She smiles at me.
"What?" I say again.
"Well I better go." She walks to the door. "I don't want to disrupt the scene of the crime." She opens the door but turns to me before she leaves. "Goodbye cousin." She smiles and walks out, slamming the door behind her.
I drop to the floor immediately and I pull my hair.
"What the hell am I going to do?" I look around and I could feel myself getting emotional.
"This is so fucked up." I sniff.
I stand up and I start picking the broken pieces of the vase.
One mistakenly cuts my palm and hiss.
"Great." I get up and walk to the kitchen sink to the rinse the blood away.
Aunt Mary had gone a business trip and won't be back until next week.
Uncle Mark had to attend his friend's wedding in Mexico so he wouldn't be back anytime soon.
So it's either I buy her a new vase, exactly the same or I run away.
Either way, I'd have to run away because that vase must have cost a fortune and I'm short of cash.
Right now, I couldn't do anything because I am deadbeat tired. All that shouting and fighting must have taken it's toll on me.
I leave the vase on the floor and I walk to my room to sleep.
......
The next day, my headache had become worse.
I was tired, cold, and profusely sweating.
I felt weak, tired and hungry.
I had taken a shower with cold water but it did nothing to relieve my headache.
Tests were starting today so I couldn't afford to miss school.
So I got dressed and got ready for school.
My movements were really slow, so I got ready later than usual.
My bag was on the couch in the living room. So I walked there and bent to pick it up.
But as soon as I stood upright, a wave of dizziness hit me and staggered a little.
I had to shake my head several times for it to clear.
When it had finally cleared, I walked towards the door and the dizziness hit me again but this time, stronger.
My bag dropped from my hand and I staggered to the back.
Everywhere became blurry and my legs went weak so I fell to the floor.
Everything became dark and I felt sleepy. I couldn't fight against it because my body felt numb.
So I gave in to the sleep and I closed my eyes.
Maybe, just maybe, if I sleep for a while, I'd still make it for the test.
