The next day came as usual. For the first three periods, I didn't bump into grey eyes nor Miles.
My heart rate was normal also.
"My dad told me about the dinner date he planned with your aunt." Chloe says during lunch.
"And?" I have a feeling there's going to be an 'and' in her sentence
"And I can't wait for you to meet my brother!" She squeals.
"What's with me meeting your brother anyway. Some might think you want to marry me off to him."
"I've told you this before, it's weird you not meeting my twin after two years of knowing me. And God forbid me from marrying you to my brother."
"Why?" I ask with a chuckle.
"He's a dickhead." She answers.
"And how are you so sure he'll be there?" I ask as I pick on my salad.
"Dad has already told him he must attend. But knowing my brother, he'll arrive when dinner has ended."
"Really?"
She shrugs.
"Dad wants his appearance. He didn't specify that he wants Nick to have dinner with us."
"Nick?"
"Yeah. That's my brother's name."
Surely, I've heard that name before.
Right?
"I just can't wait." She squeals again.
"Me too." I reply dryly.
.....
I'm dressed in a black baggy t-shirt, blue boyfriend jeans and white sneakers. My hair's in a bun and I'm wearing hoop earrings.
Lisa's hoop earrings.
Aunt Mary made sure I wore them, even though I was against it.
Speaking of Lisa, she's dressed in a grey waffle crop top, black mini leather skirt, and black boots.
We're at the front gate of Mr Hart's house and damn am I speechless.
The Harts weren't living in a house, they were living in a mansion.
As uncle Mark drove inside the big building, I couldn't help but stare at everything.
Flowers were everywhere, and a giant water fountain was right in front of the house.
Uncle Mark parked in front of the house, and we all got down.
I couldn't stand being in a car, but since I didn't want to get hit tonight, I endured it and had silent panic attacks in the back seat.
My eyes were closed all through the drive here. It was only when I got down did I breathe properly.
A tall man dressed in suit and tie came outside to meet us.
"Good evening. My name's Alfred and I'm the butler. Mr and Mrs Hart are waiting for you inside.
He steps aside and gestures with his hand for us to enter.
As soon as I entered, it felt like I was in another dimension.
Everything, and I mean everything, screamed expensive.
From what Chloe told me, she said her house is a eight bedroom 'house' like she called it, ten bathrooms, two living rooms, a very large dining room, an indoor pool, an outdoor pool, a large garden that belongs to her mom, a gaming room, an underground driveway that leads to an underground parking lot where most of the cars are parked, a separate building where all the maids, gardeners, and drivers stayed, and a very large library.
Now you tell me how a building with all these facilities would be called a house.
"Mary, Mark!" Mr Hart meets us in the hallway.
"Mr Hart!" Aunt Mary speaks up. "Thank you for inviting us." She smiles.
"It's nothing." He smiles back.
He's dressed in light blue loose button up and brown loafers.
Mrs Hart walks in.
"Hello everyone." She smiles at us.
Again, she's dressed in a floral dress.
"Dinner's ready. You can all go sit by the table, I'll go get Chloe." She walks towards the long stairs.
"Nick hasn't arrived yet, but he'll soon join us." Mr Hart speaks as we all walk to the dining room
We all take our seats at the glass table and black chair.
Moments later, Mrs Hart walks in with Chloe by my side and she waves at me. She hurries to my inside and sits beside me.
"Hi. Welcome to my home." She gestures with her hands.
"It's nice." Huge understatement.
"Thanks."
She's dressed in a white loose top, mommy jean shorts, and white sneakers.
She straightened her hair and they were tucked behind her ears.
Mrs Hart called for the food and maids start trooping in.
Tray after tray was set on the table, and when it was opened, my mouth salivated.
There was spicy sausage and whole-wheat orecchiette soup, baked chicken meatballs with garlic dip yogurt sauce, chicken curry with cucumber yogurt, vegetable salad, and ones I didn't even know the names of.
"Let's dig in." Mrs Hart says and the food was served.
For dessert, we had créme burlée and I was beyond satisfied.
"So Raven," Mr Hart begins, "Chloe here tells me you are yet to meet Nick." I throw a glance at Chloe and she smiles.
"Yes sir."
"Is that so?" Mrs Hart asks and I nod. "Well, thank goodness he's coming tonight."
"Where is he anyway?" Mr Hart speaks up and just then, Alfred also speaks up.
"Mr Hart. Welcome."
"Hi Alfred." A voice replies and I still.
Why does that voice sound so familiar?
'Nick' walks in and my heart stops literally.
"Nick!" Mrs Hart calls him. "You came right on time." She smiles at him.
"Hi mom." He greets her back.
"Nick," Mr Hart begins. "I'd like you to meet some people." He says with authority. "Come here." He gestures with his hand.
'Nick' sighs, pockets, and walks forward.
When he makes eye contact with me, his steps falter a little.
"Nick, meet Raven and her family." He turns to me. "Raven, my son Nick."
At first, I see shock on his face but it was gone as fast as it came.
I could have been mistaken.
"Raven." He greets me.
"Nicholas." I greet back.
